đˇ If youâre not drinking Merlot, youâre missing out, especially when itâs as balanced and complex as Seavey Merlot 2019, Napa Valley ($75). Rich yet fresh and juicy, this 100% Merlot has sweet tannins and plush plum and black cherry flavors with savory hints of sage and truffle. And thereâs a tantalizing thread of chocolate and truffle, along with some flinty mineral notes that add a bit of tension. Following whole-berry fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak barrels (40% new) for 20 months before bottling in June 2021. Delicious now, it has the structure and acidity needed to age with grace. This gorgeous wine is just what I needed to treat myself at the end of a hectic week.
