Basked in the little bit of sunlight we had over the weekend, and will continue to bask in the warmth by hiking this week. Learning that renting lenses to try out is dangerous for bank accounts, but incredible for creating images. This morning I legitimately had this conversation in my head: "wow, it feels like Monday today, even though I know it's not". (Well, spoiler alert). Been spending extra time on Youtube lately refreshing on concepts I already know, just to cement it into the brain. The closet in my office now serves as my regular clothes closet, which is questionable for work/life boundaries. Thrifted the COOLEST fkn lamp and I can't wait to find the perfect spot for it - and removed three bags of donate-ables in exchange. Can't stop thinking about weddings, but was temporarily distracted by how horrible of a tv show Prodigal Son is. Truly. Pulled out this gem from the archives of November 2019 because every now and then I like to be transported back to that date in time (and because the reminder on mug might make your Monday a little bit joyous). Rainy Lake Superior rocks and wedding dresses and florals and everything that makes marriage days the most incredible days. Really practicing shooting and editing exactly like the environment looks, no matter how dark or moody or blue the situation is. I want to forever preserve that light, that feeling.

Don't worry Tiny dog, the cold is over soon. Then you'll be snow tromping and sniffing other dog's pee spots faster than I can say, "hike?"

Hi, my name is Makayla, and I take the photos of your friends and family that you actually want. 1. A couple dances in the empty upstairs dinner area while the newlyweds have a first dance below them. 2. The bride laughs with a family member who signed on the wrong line of the marriage license. 3. After much deliberation, the groomsmen jump in the pool at the end of the night. 4. Groomsmen laugh with each other while relaxing before the ceremony. 5. Guests pass around bread and good times during dinner. 6. A couple finds themselves on the edge of the dance floor, in their own world. 2020 was a crazy year, and I didn't get to shoot many weddings for myself, since most of my clients chose to postpone (with intention, thank you). But in the moments where I got to assist other photographers (in these instances, @emilyalexanderphoto, @hlphoto1, @sarahkarnasphotography, @typeandtimber, @morganmanney), it was still ever so evident to me that I'll never be able to do anything other than documentary work. I found my home.

Abby and one of her ladies take a shot before she heads outside to take pictures with her soon-to-be husband (classic table tap and all).
