• Sir Anthony Hopkins is 45 years sober.

Wow! I saw a video he posted about this special anniversary and was blown away.

What an achievement. 

In the video he says he woke up one day and had to make a decision whether he wanted to live or not. He chose to live and here we are today.

Amazing.

It got me thinking. How many of us put things off? Even though we know it would be better to address them? 

I’m doing it right now with my health goals. I feel too exhausted.  But having a regular check in with some health coaches has actually been quite motivating. I feel like this time will help me solidify better habits but this requires consistency and discipline.

I had no idea that it would be something that would resonate in my coaching practice but it does.⁠⠀

As a client approaches the end of a programme, there is an obvious shift in their mindset and I see it through their texts to me. They'll ask me something and whilst asking, they answer it themselves.⁠⠀

What I love is how this translates into their everyday lives and they use these little "snippets" to stay focussed.⁠⠀

It's always nice to receive a mid-programme text like this one. It helps to keep me motivated with my business as well.⁠⠀

Contrary to yesterday's post about adversity, it is also imperative to acknowledge that you can't always be strong.⁠⠀

I had a fight with my family on Christmas day. No particular reason, Dwayne annoyed me by not defending my position in a discussion about my parent's and my brother's health.⁠⠀

Sometimes, my communication skills are a bit shit. Especially when it comes to matters of the heart. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I was trying to explain that I want them to be healthy, which ended up coming out as me being pissed off at them for not taking me seriously. I asked Dwayne to defend me, as he understood what I was saying but that I was communicating it all wrong -  but he wouldn't. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
So I got annoyed at him and decided to end Christmas day.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
On reflection, I was just down. Pissed off with everything going on and exhausted for just existing the past year.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
So, I gave myself time to cry and not be strong. I hibernated and didn't engage with the child or husband for a few days until I could see again.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
It's not easy being the strong one, the one who seems to always have it together, so if you need to take that break, do it. ⁠⠀

Just remember to come back.⁠⠀⁠⠀

But we literally are doing this pandemic thing together and everyone is and has been handling it very differently.⁠⠀

One of the biggest lessons of this time is bouncing back from the adversity. It’s not the easiest thing to do but it is also not the hardest.⁠⠀

I cannot stress enough how much the internal dialogue with yourself will affect your ability to bounce back. And when I talk about bouncing back, I don’t mean in 6 months time but I mean daily, right now.⁠⠀

Having spoken with some friends, read some tweets and scouted the quotes, there’s a general feeling of lethargy. Fed-up-ness. And I agree, I feel it too. I want out, I want to be free, I want to get pissed with my mates in Ibiza whilst eating overpriced sushi (soooo badly) but alas that’s not in the trajectory right now.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
However, I do want to have some energy when the light does come to pass as I’m sure many of you will too but this requires us to think in terms of gain rather than lack.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
And quite simply, if we keep everything to ourselves, and if we keep feeding negative thoughts, nothing will change.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Attitude is everything. Feel your feelings, yes, but don’t wallow in them, do something about them. If you can’t do it alone, seek out the help you need. When better than to do it now? Whilst life is slow and unusual and an opportunity for growth. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
None of us is perfect, everyone has something they need to work on, so why not now? Think about how good it will feel to have accomplished something, anything?!⁠⠀
