I usually work in 2 “shifts”. The first generally goes from 7am-noonish, and the second goes from 3-7:30pm. Those few hours in between are filled with chores, time with kids, lunch, client communication, sometimes a workout of my own, administrative stuff like scheduling, programming, marketing, financial planning, continuing education, and if I’m really lucky, a nap. Today, I’m tired. So I’m sitting here on the floor and drinking coffee and watching @nbcsuperstore. I used to feel super guilty about doing basically nothing. But lately, I’m seeing that times like this are essential for my mental and physical health. It’s ok to do nothing. It’s ok to not be “productive”, whatever that means. We want to create an environment with those people in mind. We want to cultivate a community that doesn’t just welcome you, but wants you, plans for you, and is created with you in mind. We’re working on gauging interest in a Transgender and Non-Binary lifting group. This client unintentionally discovered the benefits of barefoot training. After an ankle injury, they weren’t able to comfortably wear shoes. In general though, we do a lot of barefoot training here, and strengthening the ankles is just one of the objectives. Kylie is an adventurer, a hiker, a backpacker, and an all around badass. She started training with a weight vest so that she could feel safer and more confident while backpacking and rucking. One of my favorite things is watching women realize their own strength. We don’t always fully understand what we’re capable of. Sometimes we just need the permission to try, to push, to challenge ourselves. Meckenzie had never touched the Trap bar until this week. I knew this woman was strong, but DAMN. 235lbs went up so smooth! We spent a little time talking about bracing and breathing, and she was able to utilize some strategies to prevent pain in her back.
