• Welcome to Barndo Design Tip Wednesday Consider recording your stud walls before sprayfoam and sheet rock installation. Those recordings have helped us on more than one occasion. We were able to locate a missing electrical connection and realized that the sprayfoam subcontractor accidentally cut a wire when they were shaving off the excess sprayfoam. You can film with your cell phone. The video doesn’t take long ... and in the long run could save you lots of headaches.   • Welcome to Barndo Design Tip Wednesdays For those of you that have been following us for a while (and thank you by the way) you know that Oliver and I did some of the work ourselves to save money during our build. We stained ALL of the wood in our Barndo and installed nearly all of it ourselves. Thinking about adding an accent wall or two in your Barndo? Accent walls look great in Barndominiums and can really make a room. If you ask your general contractor/builder to do it, he’s going to charge you $$$$, so consider doing this yourself. Oliver and I did our bedroom wall for about a $100 with some scrap 1” x 4” wood and a few sheets of 1/8” wood veneer boards that you can purchase at your local Home Depot or Lowe’s store. The second picture is of our powder room. Again, this wall was done with some scrap 1” x 6” tongue and groove left over from our upstairs bunk room ceiling project. A good tip—stain the wood BEFORE you install and touch up if you need to at the end. Both accent walls were completed in the same weekend. You can do this yourself with a little bit of planning and in the end, you get to hold onto a bit more of your money in your pocket and take pride in your accomplishment!! I smile every time I look at these walls because I remember how much fun we had doing these projects together! A little bit of music, laughter, wood stain and a power drill!! Oh, the memories! One is the entertaining area with kitchen and living. Another one is all about sleeping quarters. The third Barndo is a guest suite.
