She sent me a photo of the mittens she wanted, and I improvised the pattern.   • A quick look at what I knitted in #2019. I never have a goal in terms of quantity of projects, but I'm definitely proud of what I accomplished last year. In particular, as many of you know, I broke my elbow in June. That slowed me down but didn't stop me from finishing the double-knit Winter Wonderland afghan (bottom left) as a wedding present. It's probably one of my singular most impressive projects, not gonna lie. . Other than that? Looks like 2019 was the year of the mitten, fingerless and otherwise. But I kept things rounded out with some scarves and other accessories, not to mention another amigurumi. I feel satisfied with how I continue to experiment, explore, and push myself and my skills. . Having made her reversible, double-knit black and white ones last year (see my feed!), I decided to try #thrummed mittens for the first time. . #Thrumming is actually among the easier skills I've learned—stranding and double knitting are definitely harder—but I wanted to get a feel for it before I made Amanda's pair. So the top, lighter grey pair is a test pair. I'm glad I did that first. Normally I'm a bad boy who doesn't wash/block his gauge swatches, but this time I did that for Amanda's yarn, and it helped me dial in the size just so. . The top pair is knit from @diamondyarn Galway Heather. Amanda's pair is @cascadeyarns 220 Heather. I improvised the pattern, with a lot of sizing help from the book Knit Mitts, by @kateatherleyknits.
