✨ Well… that’s pretty smooth. ✨
If you’ve been to Canadian Rockies International Airport lately, you may have noticed things are looking a whole lot fresher out front at YXC!
A big thank you to Terus Construction Cranbrook for the excellent work on our parking lot repaving project. From start to finish, their team kept things moving efficiently and delivered a finished product we’re extremely happy with.
We also want to extend a sincere thank you to our passengers and visitors for your patience while the work was underway. Construction and airport travel aren’t always the easiest combination, and we truly appreciated everyone rolling with the temporary changes.
The lines are painted, the pavement is smooth, and we’re officially calling this project complete. 🙌
Here’s hoping it stays looking this good for a very, very long time. 😉
Great work, Terus — and thank you, YXC travellers! ✈️
Stay tuned…there’s more to come! ✨

🦇 A Little Visitor at YXC!
We had a tiny and rather unexpected guest hanging out on the side of the YXC terminal yesterday. This little bat had chosen a very exposed spot for his daytime snooze — and seemed completely unbothered by the airport activity around him. 😄
Our Finance Manager, concerned that our new tenant might need a little assistance, reached out to Bat Conservation International / Bat BC resources and learned some pretty fascinating things about these misunderstood little creatures.
🦇 Bats will occasionally roost in unusual, exposed places while resting between nighttime adventures.
🦇 They may stay remarkably still during daylight hours — which doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong.
🦇 BC is home to numerous species of bats, and they play an important role in our ecosystem by eating huge numbers of insects each night.
🦇 The best thing we can usually do for a resting bat is give it plenty of space, keep people and pets away, and let it decide when it’s ready to move along.
And apparently, ours was ready.
When we checked his little concrete Airbnb this morning, he was gone. ❤️
We’re hoping that sometime after dark he stretched those wings, took flight from YXC and found his way back to wherever he calls home.
Safe travels, little buddy. No landing fee this time. 😉🦇✈️

❤️ Thinking of Our Province
As British Columbia faces a state of emergency, we are incredibly grateful that here in Cranbrook, our local wildfire situation remains controlled.
We also recognize how fortunate we are.
Across other parts of our province, families and communities are facing evacuations, threatened and lost homes and properties, displaced or missing animals, and so much uncertainty.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected — those waiting for news, those forced to leave their homes, and those watching and hoping from afar.
And to the incredible firefighters, first responders, emergency personnel, volunteers and support crews working tirelessly across B.C.: thank you. Your courage, dedication and long hours do not go unnoticed.
From all of us at YXC, we are thinking of our neighbours across British Columbia and hoping for safety, rain, and calmer days ahead. ❤️ #bcstrong #bcwildfires

The cavalry has arrived. ✈️🔥
You may have spotted these unmistakable yellow-and-blue aircraft at YXC. These are Alberta Wildfire CL-215T water bombers, temporarily operating from Canadian Rockies International Airport to support wildfire suppression efforts in the region.
Purpose-built for firefighting, these amphibious aircraft can scoop thousands of litres of water from nearby lakes in just seconds before returning to the fire line. Their ability to make rapid, repeated drops makes them an invaluable tool in slowing the spread of wildfires and protecting communities.
We’re proud to support the crews working tirelessly on the front lines and to provide a base of operations here at YXC.
If you see these aircraft coming and going, give them plenty of space and join us in wishing all wildfire personnel a safe and successful mission. 🚒🌲💛✈️ #thankafirefighter #bcwildfires #visitcranbrook #albertafirefighters photo credit: @thesociallydistantchef

✈️ Travel Update from YXC ✈️
We understand that many travelers are monitoring the current wildfire situation across the region.
We want to reassure passengers that air service in and out of YXC remains unaffected at this time.
All scheduled flights are continuing to operate, and the airport remains fully open and accessible. We are actively monitoring conditions and remain in close contact with our airline and emergency management partners.
If you are travelling, we encourage you to check directly with your airline for the latest flight information and allow yourself extra time to travel safely.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We wish everyone a safe journey and extend our gratitude to the firefighters and emergency personnel working hard to protect our communities.

🚧 Parking Lot Improvements Coming to YXC 🚧
To improve your experience at Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC), our main parking lot will be repaved between August 6 and August 28.
During construction, alternate overflow parking will be available.
While we hope for a smooth and efficient project, we recognize that construction may cause some temporary inconvenience. We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we complete these important improvements.
Thank you for bearing with us—we look forward to welcoming you to a smoother, refreshed parking lot very soon! ✈️

A great couple of days at the BCAC (BC Aviation Council) conference in Kelowna to remind us just how lucky we are to be part of such an engaged, passionate and dedicated aviation community.
From great conversations and industry learning, to reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new ones, this event always delivers. And of course… a major highlight was an incredible evening hosted at the KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence. Amazing venue, amazing people, and a pretty spectacular reminder of both the history and future of aviation in British Columbia and Canada.
Thank you to #YLW for the education, the hospitality, and the memories.
And in between all of the conference sessions and networking, we even managed to sneak in some incredible Okanagan downtime — including some Jamie and Gemma mountain biking adventures, and some much-needed sunset decompression after long event days. Because sometimes the best conversations and moments happen once the lanyards come off and the sun starts to dip behind the mountains.
Now comes the fun part… because next up: YXC will host the BCAC in 2027.
Needless to say, we may have just slightly raised our own expectations after this week 😂✈️
Challenge accepted.
We can’t wait to welcome everyone to YXC and to this corner of the province we feel so privileged and proud to call home.
Stay tuned! #bcaviationcouncil #flyyxc #ylw #visitcranbrook kootenaylife

Sound on and heads up, Cranbrook! 👀✈️
If you caught that incredible flyover today, you weren’t imagining things—that was an RCAF CF-18 Hornet ripping through our skies over YXC!
Fun fact: the Royal Canadian Air Force recently celebrated its 102nd birthday 🎉🇨🇦
What an absolute honour to have you visit our skies. Nothing like the sound of a jet to turn a regular day into something unforgettable!
