Last week, our "Thought for the Week" was on Water Safety, and particularly the safety Campaign ‘Float to Live’, life-saving advice no matter how someone ends up in the water. Should you wish to discuss this further with your children, our newsletter includes helpful links.
Did you know: Water Safety is part of the new Statutory Guidance for RSE (covered in our Skills lessons) for September, so this will be a topic we will be revisiting with students. Other personal safety topics include Rail, Travel and Fire Safety.

If you’re in trouble in the water, #FloatToLive could save your life:
• Tilt your head back with ears submerged
• Relax and try to control your breathing
• Use your hands to help you stay afloat
• It’s OK if your legs sink, we all float differently
Practise floating at as supervised location, such as a swimming pool.
Remember it. Practise it. Share it.

Our #KeyStage3 Scholars met Jasmine who works in Sky Sports as a lawyer.
We want our young people to have high aspirations and to find out how to take their first steps into a career they love.

At the end of the summer term, Thursday 16th July, a new King John tradition will be starting. We want to celebrate reaching the end of another academic year and moving up to the next year group of the school, this will be called; NO TIE DAY!
All students will be able to take their tie off in celebratory fashion from registration onwards. We ask that all students come into school with their tie and that they remove these during line up and hand their tie in as a donation to The Equity Centre. Any student who is keeping their tie to pass on to a younger sibling will still be able to remove their tie and can just put it in their bag. Equally if they need that tie for the following year then they can of course keep hold of it. If a student wants to donate something else they have grown out of on that day we would very much welcome that.
This initiative is part of our Equality pride value, as a school we know how important it is to give back and we want to encourage our young people to join in with this commitment. Collected ties will be taken to the KJS Equity Centre to support the King John Community.
We are really looking forward to our first NO TIE DAY!

Each tutor group has been assigned a country and they are producing a display on aspects connected to that country!
