Vulnerability sounds like honesty and feels like courage. @brenebrown Started reading @brenebrown book 'Daring Greatly' and wow. Just wow.
You told me to zip up my coat, that it didn't do me any good to wear a coat if I didn't zip it up I spent the morning looking at pictures with my dad and memories started flooding back, it was a picture of where he used to work. An old blue building with metal stairs... Such a simple picture that prompted a flood of memories. These girls were troopers we lasted about 20 minutes in the bitter wind, but I hope these photos are a doorway to memories involving epic adventures in the Utah mountains, skiing with their parents and maybe even a freezing photoshoot in-between 😏
The flowers are coming up in my front flower bed. Spring is so close I can almost taste it. Spring is probably my favorite favorite season. (To photograph in, or simply exist in) The days are longer, the sun magically dances through the budding trees and it makes everything feel like a fairytale. #utahphotographer #utahphotog #slcphotographer #parkcityphotographer #productphotographer #lifestylephotographer #utahlifestyle #commercialphotographer #utahcommercialphotographer #professionalphotographer #lifestylephotographer #utahphotographer #utahlifestyle #filmphotographer #utahfilmphotographer #utahweddingphotographer #destinationphotographer #theheartfulphotogs #slcwedding #parkcityweddingphotographer #slcweddingphotographer #slcbohowedding
--Photographing Funerals-- Things that have made me a better photographer 3 of 3 At funerals your loved ones put out the things that symbolize your life. Things you loved, little trinkets, or letters, hobbies you were passionate about...and pictures. I've photographed over a dozen funerals, some of them were people very close to me, and what hurts the most is when there's a disconnect; when the images displayed don't show who they were. You know, deep down who they really were as a person. It's definitely changed my perspective, and made me put the question 'What do you want to remember most about your life right now? on my questionnaire. I go into every photoshoot wondering what images will matter the most to your kids or to your spouse. I've come to believe that most of the time pictures aren't for you anyway, but it's an opportunity to leave a piece of you for future generations to see. #utahphotographer #utahphotog #slcphotographer #parkcityphotographer #productphotographer #lifestylephotographer #utahlifestyle #commercialphotographer #utahcommercialphotographer #professionalphotographer #lifestylephotographer #utahphotographer #utahlifestyle #filmphotographer #utahfilmphotographer #utahweddingphotographer #destinationphotographer #theheartfulphotogs
--- Becoming a Mother -- Things that have made me a better photographer 2 of 3 Becoming a mom changed my life and therefore changed my art. (We've had this talk before right? An artist's work is a reflection of their life? Right? Yes. Ok glad we're on the same page) Anyway... It is hands down the hardest most rewarding thing I have ever done. My children have taught me Love. To love deeply without strings attached. Perseverance. I really can give more, even though I'm tired, hurt and emotionally spent. Joy & Appreciation. So much joy and in the most unexpected ways. Like when they hold your hand back for the first time. Or climbing into bed with you after having a bad dream. Telling you secrets, or the sheer delight over simple things like play dough and princess panties. And when my life is filled with a purpose bigger than just me, it can't help but spill over visually too.
--Practice-- Things that have made me a better photographer Part 1 of 3 Have you ever heard the parable of the pottery class? No it's not in the Bible, and I don't even remember where I heard it, but it's stuck with me through the years so google it if you want a more in depth version ;) At the beginning of the year a pottery teacher decided to conduct an experiment. She divided the class into 2 groups. First group was told to create 1 perfect piece of pottery, being graded on the quality of their one piece. The second group was told to create as many pieces as possible, and they would be graded on the number of pieces created. As the class went one, surprisingly enough, the group who was tasked to create as many pieces as possible were producing not only more but higher quality pieces faster than the first group. By the end of the semester the second group was able to produce that 'perfect piece' while the first group fell short. I feel like photography for me has been a lot like this. By focusing on growth, constantly moving forward, instead of trying to perfect every minute detail that sometimes is just plain out of my control I've been able to progress, perfecting the process as I go, instead of demanding perfection at the begining. . . . Little know fact. I know how to read lips. It's a blessing and a curse. Sometimes you accidentally see/hear things you probably shouldn't and then other times it's super nice to be able to talk to my sisters from across the room without anyone hearing Half my dad's brother's and sisters are deaf and they never learned sign language (my grandma diligently taught them how to read lips instead) So years of family gatherings and wanting to communicate with my aunts and uncles I figured out how. I didn't even realize how much I just 'picked up on it' until my kids started doing it to me. How about you? What superpowers do you wish you possessed or currently possess that you want to share with the social media class.
