THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE REALLY FUCKING UGLY OF CLUBHOUSE⠀ ⠀ If we're going to talk about all the great things about Clubhouse, we absolutely cannot ignore the really, reaaaallly bad things about it.⠀ ⠀ I have actually seen people post "there are no trolls on Clubhouse because you use your 'real information'"... LOL GIRL WHAT?⠀ ⠀ Yes, it's cool that it's invite-only and it's a smaller community and you meet really great people. My personal experience thus far has been A+.⠀ ⠀ But what all of these "get to know Clubhouse!" carousels and primers don't mention is the pretty terrible dark side of the app. That includes but is certainly not limited to racism, homophobia, misogyny, alt right conspiracy theories, sexual predators, misinformation, abusers, scams, and business fraud.⠀ ⠀ Some facts to consider:⠀ ⠀ 1⃣ The founders have known white supremacists and sexual predators are active and popular on the platform⠀ 2⃣ The founders have ignored pleas for this to change 3️⃣ There are no ways to flag misinformation/disinformation and founders will not intervene⠀ 4️⃣. There is ZERO moderation coming from within Clubhouse; it is at the users' discretion—the founders have no plans to change this⠀ ⠀ (((See the last slide for sources)))⠀ ⠀ I'm not saying don't use Clubhouse. I haven't even come to that conclusion myself, but it's a complicated personal decision that I'm wrestling with. THE LESSONS I LEARNED FROM 2020 🥂⠀ ⠀ No performative vulnerability or humblebragging contained within:⠀ ⠀ In lieu of sharing all I accomplished (or what I didn't) in 2020 or what I'm doing in 2021, I want to instead share some very important things I learned.⠀ ⠀ Some of these lessons were things I'd never thought about before. Others were things I already knew but hadn't fully accepted or experienced.⠀ ⠀ Some lessons came over me like a sunrise: calm, beautiful, like a chance for a new beginning. Some, on the other hand, felt like a bucket of freezing cold water suddenly dumped over my head: shocking, painful, and confusing.⠀ ⠀ I hope these can serve as reminders for you and me both as we move into 2021. ⠀ ⠀ 1⃣ You are capable of surviving much more than you think.⠀ ⠀ 2⃣ Health over wealth.⠀ ⠀ 3⃣ You can grow, but you don't have to change.⠀ ⠀ 4⃣ If someone doesn't like your boundaries, that says a lot more about them than it does about you. Hold the line.⠀ ⠀ 5⃣ What's meant for you will find you.⠀ ⠀ 6⃣ You are worthy of your wildest dreams.⠀ ⠀ 7⃣ Unless you've signed a contract or you're selling a VIP all-access pass to your life, you don't actually owe anyone anything.⠀ ⠀ 8⃣ Release your expectations.⠀ ⠀ 9⃣ Your entire life can change in one year.
