The Iowa Legislature gaveled out on Sunday after a marathon session, bringing the 2026 legislative session to a close.
Because of your advocacy, your persistence, and your willingness to show up again and again—this session ended with no legislation passed that specifically targets Iowa libraries or services.
Together, we sent 15,868 messages through OneClick Politics during the 2026 session, not including the countless personal conversations, calls, texts, and emails you initiated on your own. That level of engagement matters—and it made a difference.
Over the course of the session, 10 bills or amendments were introduced that would have negatively impacted libraries.
We also saw efforts to maintain and support access to the Historical Resource Research Center, HF 2025, reinforcing the value of preserving Iowa’s historical resources. This bill also did not pass.
The fact that none of these library-specific bills passed is the direct result of your work and diligent communication throughout the full 16 weeks of legislative session.
Thank you for advocating in your libraries and communities, for reaching out to coworkers and colleagues, for engaging city leaders, trustees, foundations, friends, and neighbors. You helped ensure that library voices were heard clearly and consistently throughout the session.
Thank you for everything you did this session. Your advocacy continues to protect and strengthen Iowa libraries.
