You don’t need to sacrifice your mental well-being to achieve physical health 🤍 Although, that’s what we are made to believe by society’s standards: “Eat this, but don’t touch the foods you enjoy” “You need willpower” “You need to push yourself and do that workout” “You have to follow this plan, otherwise you won’t be healthy” “You should feel guilty for eating/doing that” It’s #BellLetsTalk day here in Canada, and I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to pursue extreme measures to achieve physical health at the expense of your mental well-being True health is when physical and mental health are working in harmony. Together, not against one another. Move away from all the rules and society’s standards. I’ll be the first to say that I was definitely not in a good place mentally when I was trying to control everything about my food and body. Stressing yourself out about what you’re eating is counterproductive for your well-being and health! Find what feels good to YOU and your body, your mind. Lean into that more, reflect on that more, and find your true authentic health. If you’re unsure where to start - work with a professional who can guide you. A Registered Dietitian, a therapist, a certified intuitive eating counsellor. Find someone who can support you in your journey, it’s worth it. Do you find yourself overeating all. the. time.?! 🥴 When you catch yourself in those moments, ask yourself these 3 questions: 👉🏼 1. Am I eating enough throughout the day? Your body needs enough fuel to function its best. If you’re not feeding it enough or a variety of nutrients, it might be telling you to FEED IT MORE! (Aka overeating) 👉🏼 2. Are my emotional needs being met? Sometimes, if we are not coping with our emotions, food can be a source of comfort. Which can be okay! But if you’re finding it to be too much or out of control, check in with yourself and ask what you actually NEED in that moment 👉🏼 3. Do the foods I eat satisfy me? If you aren’t satisfied, you might be automatically reaching for more and more until you are satisfied. This can show up when you’re not having balanced meals, or you’re depriving yourself of your favourite foods! Checking in with yourself in a non-judgemental way can be the best skill to learn to finally finding food freedom! 🙌🏼 Save these Qs for later 😘
