  • Checking in friends, we made it through the week, barely (insert deep exhale) Along with all the emotions we are all unpacking. My eldest daughter got into a really bad bike accident and alas, the bike won 😩. I wouldn’t usually share what felt like a huge mum fail on social media. But as I processed my week I realised this. When the accident initially happened, my daughter was in tremendous pain. So much pain, she didn’t want me to touch her for fear I would hurt her further, she was bloody, bruised and broken (literally). The pain was causing her so much agony that I became hesitant in touching her also, I didn’t want to cause her any more pain, or do something, touch something to cause her further harm and make it worse. After several conversations with friends this week, I realised in some ways I had retreated in my own hurt as a black women in fear of being harmed further. Many of my friends who took the step to reach out did so not wanting to cause further hurt, but show solidarity but, knew enough to know that ignorance hurts still. As vunerable a place it is, we are still better together. It’s not always possible for the wounded to battle weary especially when their strength has been compromised. That’s when friends, allys assist in the fight. I remain hopeful!
