• Today is Kamala Eve 🎉, but this day holds extra significance for me because it's also the 10 year anniversary of starting my business.

I've been reflecting today about what this work has meant to me over the years: how it has challenged my assumptions about myself, what's possible, and what drives other people; how it's been a mirror of my own strengths and insufficiencies; how it's been both proving ground and playground; what it's given to me and when I've given too much to it; how it's shaped who am I today; the remarkable people my life has either crossed paths with or become entwined with as a result.

I'm always telling my clients to go ahead and make the ask, so here's mine: It would be such a gift to me on this day if you would let me know what my work has meant to you, even in a small way. ❤️

Thank you for sharing with me. And big thanks to that gal in the photo, Laura From 2011, for saying yes and finding her way.

  • 👋 Hello new followers! Whether you found me on @nic.antoinette's podcast or because a client or colleague posted about my work, here's what you should know:

1. I help people discover the meaningful work that's right for them
2. I've had 1 haircut this year
3. I have an off again/on again thing with Insta, currently very much off
4. This photo is a little out of focus b/c 2020 was a little out of focus
5. As you see end of the year reviews posted in Insta, remember that "I survived" is a legit year end review
6. Best email I gotten this year: When someone asked for something, I said no, and they said: "I appreciate and respect the boundaries you've made for yourself and your work!"
7. Chai
8. My office is decorated with plants, acorns, butterfly wings, and other found treasures
9. If I wasn't doing this, I'd be a singer-songwriter, otter trainer, or acting teacher
10. 2020 highlight: Spending SO MUCH time in the woods
11. My name is Laura 😊

I'd love it if you shared a bit about you in the comments. Glad you're here. 💕

  • Most people give up and tell themselves, "Work is called work for a reason" or some other demoralizing line to justify throwing in the towel.

I know it's tempting to give up when you've already tried (and tried and tried) to find a career that will give you the belonging, fulfillment, and income that you're deserving of.

If you are still trying to figure things out, that takes COURAGE. Hope, change, help -- they ALL call for courage.

Don't give up. But don't expect the things that haven't been working to suddenly turn things around. If journaling, scrolling job postings, learning about yourself, dabbling in creative projects or whatever you've been trying hasn't worked, then have the courage to get help and try an effective way of finding a career you'll love.

PS: When you're ready to learn a streamlined, proven way to find the right career, scoot on over to the link in my bio and sign up for the free training. When you've got a you can trust, it's easier to be courageous!

  • When’s the last time you felt like your work really made a difference?

I don’t just mean that you did something someone else deemed valuable; I’m sure you’re doing something valuable enough everyday or you wouldn’t be getting paid.

I mean when’s the last time you did something that made you feel a mix of pride, accomplishment, and humility because of the impact you had?

You can feel like that regularly.

  • Frozen because you can't see three steps ahead? 😬

I was talking with some Your Career Homecoming alums recently, and one of the questions that came up was, "What if?"

😬 "What if I apply for this job, and then..."

😬 "What if I get the job and don't like it, and then..."

😬 "What if it's not what I think it is, and then..."

And sometimes there were MORE "and then, and then" clauses tacked on that made each question a 3- or 4-parter.

Here's the thing: You can't deal in "What if's." You can't fully plan a hypothetical because it's not real yet. In fact, it might not ever become real.

So what do you do? Keep the big picture in mind, but FOCUS on the next REAL circumstance. If the What If's happen, you can deal with them then. That doesn't mean you can't think about the What If's, but you can't let thinking about them derail the immediate progress you need to make.

Double tap if you spiral into "What ifs" about your career - I know you're not alone!

PS: If the next REAL circumstance you need to FOCUS on is figuring out what career will give you purpose and joy, go check out my free training (link in bio) for a head start.

  • We ALL want recognition for our work, so if you want it and aren't getting it, that doesn't mean you're needy or pathetic; it means you're human. It's a craving for a kind of connection.
