We have a lot of new faces here so I want to welcome each and every one of you. At the same time, I want to make Refine’s stance on racial injustice very clear in case you’ve not caught it over time in conversation or previous posts. Refine believes that Black Lives Matter and that sure, while “all lives matter” may be a true sentiment, it’s not the point of the current conversation. If I were at a breast cancer fundraiser, I would not march in seeking advancement for colon cancer awareness. I’d simply join the conversation about breast cancer and do all I could for the moment it was having and needing. While being color blind sounds loving and good, it dismisses the beautiful differences we have and should celebrate. It also dismisses the pain and trauma that a people group has experienced for centuries. The more loving response is to SEE color and call out systematic bias that continues to oppress. I’ve dropped some teasers in the FB group that some changes are coming for Refine and one of those involves who is and isn’t a member of our community. I’ll be asking members to self-regulate their continued involvement in Refine by several (ideal client) parameters I put into place, and this will be one of them. Refine isn’t for everyone, and I’m okay with that. But if anything, Refine is a place where Black Lives Matters and despite having made that clear in the past, I’m committed to doing more with this conversation, on an ongoing basis.
Did you see that today is the last day to use RELEIF20 for 20% any template or the Refine Course? I don’t really run promos because I’m a believer in my value. So I choose to lead by example as one that actively discourages discounts. Though, with the C word, it felt right. But all good things must come to an end so after two months of extending this offer, it’s expiring tonight. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are some templates to consider: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨ Wedding Planning Process Kit - the A-Z on all the things. I was watching The Hollars recently and this line really stood out to me. One of the sons is asking his mom about marriage and her advice is “don’t waste your time on the bad, live with the good.” And it’s so true, not only for marriage, but all things. It’s easy to get bogged down in the bad. But it’s the good that keeps us going. Choose to live with the good today!
I used to be colorblind. And I still get it wrong as I learn and grow. But I’ve learned that choosing not to see color doesn’t fix the problem. “When we acknowledge the beauty of racial diversity and address the problems surrounding race in our system, we create a world that is more inclusive for all people. The outdated notion of colorblindness centers around the idea that it's best to treat people as equals and to totally ignore difference in race and ethnicity. When those of us who have the power to do something about racism and racial bias pretend it doesn't exist, we're only allowing it to continue and even worsen.” -UpWorthy #irunwithmaud #runwithmaud
I heard this in a movie script the other day (don’t ask me which one because I’ve about completed Netflix these days) and it struck me! This is so true! For many of us, this won’t feel temporary. It will indeed change the trajectory for a lot of us. I’ve had life altering circumstances before and without putting these exact words to it, these are the words that were the map for me. Sharpen your focus! This will look so different for all of us. For some, that may be personal or family related. For others, it may be business. Some may focus on savings, others on investing. Some on health, others on rearranging furniture and feeling like you live in a fresh new house! You don’t even have to know what that focus is right now. But do spend your days reflecting on where your heart and mind have led you that day. Notice any patterns? New passions? New desires for a facelift in your company? What focus did you sharpen in on in your last trial?! Did you focus on one?
