  • As part of our #laserthursday tips, today we’re cutting 1/2” Clear Cast Acrylic sheet into some letters for a client. We have found that for heavier gauge cutting, raising the material up off the cutting bed results in the cleanest cut. A few tricks on how to do that successfully. (1) is the material we are working with, raised up and in place. (2) shows how we raised the material (just 1/4” bolt and nuts from the local @homedepot) (3) It is vital that you be correctly focused on your material when laser cutting. Since the material is raised we cannot run Auto-Z, so remember to TURN OFF Auto-Z Focus and manually focus off the material. (4) when cutting material that is raised off the cutting bed, it’s important the laser cuts graphics in the proper order. Here we are using Green Vector lines as the 1st sequence, and Red Vector lines as the 2nd sequence. The Blue Vector line is only there for reference and will be skipped during the run (important to remember to SKIP lines that are reference lines or they will cut your material!) (5) Cutting in action. Notice the material fall an inch or so as it’s cut. That’s that!
