If there is one thing I learned to heart it would be that trying in business and possibly failing is better than not taking chances at all. Playing safe means playing comfortably. You stay in your bubble. I remember a year ago I set a goal to do more on video. The perfection in me said to myself; no no can’t do that. We don’t have professional equipment. Who is waiting for your face anyway? And that thought felt comfortable because not making anything and not buying equipment meant the dream could stay in my bubble of perfection. Oh, how it looked wonderful. I decided to rebel against my thoughts. Invested in great equipment and started recording. Hours, hours and more hours. I set the standard incredibly high, throwing out lots of possibly valuable material. Again I started to rebel against my comfort zone. So I published something. And then more things. And people started noticing. Going from afraid to enjoying video making. (And not carrying so much about opinions helps 🙈). Instead of hiding behind the perfection end state (which will never come) I am now trying things. And taking one step at a time to improve. Going steady is better than perfection that never sees daylight.
There is so much more to being successful in business than just your offer. Most entrepreneurs who made it will tell you the biggest impact on their success has been their mindset. And I fully agree. They have one thing in comon; they always make it work. Failing is not an option. But what does that mean? 1. Getting your goals straight 2. Being flexible on how you get there (including flexibility on your offer and branding!!!!(!!?!!))!! 3. Allowing yourself to make mistake and LEARN from them 4. Not give up (on yourself) I believe there is value in any of us. You just have to package it the right way. I can. I will. Or as Tim Gunn used to say; Make it work people. ( how I miss him on Project Runway)
Today we are preparing for another series of digital strategy workshops. This customer has over 100k members for their services. And they are looking for expanding those numbers massively. Over the years they have been the #1 go-to party for so many people. Each year new services have been added to satisfy their audience needs. Until it didn’t anymore. It is not like they are messing around. Their strategies have always been focused on solving issues and expanding their impact. The only problem has been that the strategies focused on one thing. - a new social strategy - a new website - a new event - a new course ... Sound familiar? You wouldn’t be alone. About 92% of business still has this kind of structure in place. The problem is, there is no overall point of view. The customer does not just touch social or just touch via socials. They are not all in the same state of mind. So you need to tie them all together. Tell a logical story that makes sense through all experiences. That is what customer experience is all about.
“I will teach you this one trick that will give you the financial freedom that you dream off”. Ever seen one of these one-liners in an add? The promise is usually that you will find out about the secret for giving up your e-mailadres. One day it is funnels, another is about free give-always, a webinar, sell high-end, sell low-end. Whatever it is, it is succesful.. for some. Your question is; will it be succesful for me? It might, but chances are it might not. Sorry! But it is the truth. Marketing succes is heavily under fire by culture and trend. What works today, might not work tomorrow. What does stand the aging of time however, is your brand. The promise you make you audience. It is True for any business. It is part of the two key factors we use to build business success. The brand we build up from what your company has within its core and how the audience perceives it best, the other part is making propositions based on customer feedback. Combined you have a powerful tool to consistently grow your succes. It might not the fast way you’re promised, which is what you always hope for. (And is why we want so badly to believe these adds to be true). But it also isn’t this lotery, where most get left behind with nothing. Our way of business succes is sustainable and reliable towards the future.
