  • I struggled with Orthorexia for 5 years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Orthorexia, or orthorexia nervosa, is an eating disorder that involves an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating. Unlike other eating disorders, orthorexia mostly revolves around food quality, not quantity. Unlike with anorexia or bulimia, people with orthorexia are rarely focused on losing weight.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This was the case for me.  Weight-loss was not my goal.  In fact, at the time, I was heavily involved with Fitness Modelling Competitions & was OCD about every morsel of food AND nutrient timing (eating every 2 hours to prevent anabolism = muscle breakdown). I was more concerned with making sure I was eating enough to build a (first place) show-worthy physique. 
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I still have the condition, but just like having a rash that won't go away, I make a good "I see you there, I feel you" check-in, & we make truce. 
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
..it's when I don't check-in that the 'rash' spreads, and takes over - which oftentimes leads to food binges, or just plain sabotaging all the efforts I make to live a healthy life.

So, when I say I always think about food, I do.  But, now more healthily.  Food is my passion, my career, my purpose.  It's what brings me so much joy but I'm always walking a tightrope.

I promise you this.  If you too are suffering with any disordered eating there is relief.  It doesn't just 'Go Away' but rather learning to accept this just like accepting the birthmark you're born with is the first step.

Making peace with myself means living life with no deprivation, or rigidity.  Especially with the food I eat (see how I didn't name it a DIET). I eat what I want when I want, how I want.  But, I eat within the values and beliefs I hold true for me.

Health is #1 priority for me, so when it comes to food the choice is easy for me to eat Clean..but I don't deny a craving or sweet treat!
