Y4 Birch should be able to recognise the defining features of vertebrates by sorting and classifying them using visual clues and scientific vocabulary. They should also be able to justify their groupings. Now can you remember squish-crunch or crunch-squish?
Can you sort these into vertebrates and invertebrates?
They even got to look at some real creepy crawlies 😮. The display is in the main corridor. 🦋🐜🕷

On Friday, children and staff dressed in red, yellow and orange to mark the special Diwali Celebrations. We had an assembly in the morning lighting the school hall with our own made 'diya lamps' and then a super celebration for our whole community sharing traditional treats. We had our dancing feet on to a 'dhol' drummer who brought the festivities to life. Well done everyone!

Y3/Y4 have been busy in their science unit on the human skeleton. It focuses on the fundamental structure and function of the skeletal system. Ask them! There will be a display in the main corridor from Birch class in the coming days! Please look out for it when we have our consultation evenings. Here they have glued pasta onto a silhouette of a vertebrate. Can you guess what these 3 are? What is the same? What is different?

Who remembers an OS Map? Were you able to fold it back in again, afterwards? Y4 Birch class have been looking at the OS map symbols and their meanings on this Snowdonia map. It was big enough for many of them to take a closer look! This is part of their Geography unit - Spatial Sense.👀👌

Birch class have been studying, 'The First Drawing' by Mordicai Gerstein in English and have created some live chalk and charcoal art on the paving stones outside their classroom. This links to their history topic - The Stone Age. Can you spot any Stone Age evidence?

We were very proud and privileged to have the inspirational Leah Chowdhry visit us - the first British Asian woman to swim The English Channel!
She inspired us, helped us believe in our 'growth mindset' and reminded us to do things for others. We all have that inner voice that says 'you can!' Thank you so, so much from Oldfield Primary School!

Pupils went to Camden and got to witness the unveiling of a plaque honouring Britain’s first Caribbean carnival outside Camden Town Hall. There they met and greeted with the Mayor of Camden!
They also got to hear speeches from influential women who spoke on the life of Trinidadian activist Claudia Jones who organised the first Caribbean Carnival in the UK which was held indoors at St Pancras Town Hall on January 30, 1959. What a brilliant experience!

EYFS & KS1 were very fortunate to be able to meet some wonderful, exciting and beautiful creatures from Hounslow Urban Farm. Some they could hold - others not! What can you see? They even had names too! Thank you.
