See, I used to teach Vedika a lot through books and activities. As she was growing up, her likes and dislikes keep evolving and changing, and it was almost as if most of her learning was happening while at school. The feeling of not being able to impart learning to her was hitting me hard.⁣ ⁣ And then @tokabox came to the rescue! We recently did this activity from our December month Toka box, which enabled me to teach her to paint. This was the first time she painted with a brush and I am glad that I was able to teach her this new skill. She loved painting and decorating her photo frame. This is the Indian version of the same - the photo collages are inviting, the talk of Kachoris, the silk saris, the maha Aarti of evening, and description of an ancient town in India makes you want to go there right now. My son was excited about the talk of mosques and the city built in 11th BC, and of course food It will introduce you and your kid to #India like no other book will. Thankfully we got our #tokaexplorer box right on time, which engaged my 6 yrs old for hours and she learned so much about Bundelkhand through a beautiful folk tale “Book- What A Song” & activity- Bilingual Board Game! She absolutely loved the story about a woman who never sang a song and asked her husband to buy her a song from the market. When no one was willing to sell him a song, the husband came up with his own song inspired by the animals he encountered on the way! Did the song work? What made it so special? That kept her glued to the story till the end. She also enjoyed the activity which is a unique bilingual board game inspired by the book and ancient game of Snakes and Ladders. She was amused to learn that it was originated in India and back then it was named as Mokshapat, invented by Saint Gyandev in the 13th Century to educate children about ‘Karma’. Now it’s famous as Chutes and Ladders in the USA. I felt so proud of my rich heritage while reading out the information to her. Raising children far from my motherland always make me insecure that, if I am doing enough to raise my children well connected to their roots or not, but I am so thankful to @tokabox for developing this wonderful multicultural box, which makes my job easier. Now I just have to bundle up and cuddle with my children while enjoying these books and activities. Each Tokabox is inspired by Indian culture and heritage and what I like the most about the Toka box is that, it also encourage Literacy, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.
