Since the very first (and only) quilting class that I had planned to take was cancelled because of a worldwide hiccup, I thought that I would instead share a couple of the workshops that I have given. I am so grateful that I was able to squeeze in one last class with @quiltundtextil literally the weekend before the lockdowns started a year ago. With each class that I teach, I feel like I am learning new things as well... especially how to tweak the next class. I love the exchange with other experienced quilters, and they have shared so many of their own tips and techniques that I get to add to my bag of tricks - it just goes to show that you never stop learning. I think it goes without saying that like the rest of the world, I am so ready to get back to being a part of that community. #IGQuiltFest2021⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #IGQuiltFest⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #IGQuiltFest2021day18 #flyhighdragonflyquilt #campbellsoupdiary #appliqueworkshop #quiltingclass #quiltingworkshop #applique #appliquelove #nähkurs #werbung

Today’s prompt for the #IGQuiltFest2021 is #quiltsofsignificance. Several years ago my mom had requested that I make her a quilt. Believe it or not, my parents’ style is way more modern than mine. Since she asked, we just HAD to head down to the local quilt shop (conveniently owned by my aunt’s good friend) and we picked out fabrics together. The irony is that even though my mom taught me to sew, quilting is so not her thing… but it was a special time for my mom to step into my world. My dad was even involved in the final fabric selection. I brought the fabrics home with me, and by the time we returned the following year, I had a quilt packed in my suitcase as a surprise for them. If I think about it, the fact that my mom was the one who taught me to sew, and my dad (who is a trained artist) is the one who taught me about color… it really is quite significant to be able to give back to them in this way... the very things they taught me. #IGQuiltFest2021day17 #zenchicpattern #contrastingquilt #showmethemoda #showmethemodagrunge #grungefabricforever #basicgreygrunge

If I were to bear it all, I would have to admit to you that I don't have that big of a quilting book library. Somehow if I am not wowed by every project in a book, I won't get it. But there are a few titles that have made me cave like a weak little girl. One of my favorite books, and one that I refer to a lot is the 2001 Nouveaux Blocs de Patchwork by Chuck Nohara. No fuss. No muss. No assembly intructions. No blocks to actual size. I think what appeals to me the most is that I have to figure out the contruction myself. Not everyone's cup of tea, but definitely a fun challenge. save your back + save your knees + save your fingernails = you don't have to hate basting anymore. Yes, it really IS that simple. I was fortunate enough that when I first started quilting, my aunt who has almost 40 years of quilting experience, shared with me THE way to baste quilts... before I even basted my very first quilt top!?! I use the tabletop method, and let me just tell you, basting is NOT the part of the quilting process that I dread. (unlike what I read from so many other quilters) I actually shared a blog post about it aeons ago. Find the link in my profile.
