• Georgia’s Voting Systems Implementation Manager Gabriel Sterling told press in a briefing that the hand recount for the Presidential election in Georgia was being performed to ensure voter confidence.

Sterling said, “The press, many times, has mischaracterized the rationale behind this as caving to Trump and their campaign. There’s nothing to be further from the truth…”

He continued, “We knew there was a specific purpose for an audit in the law. And that specific purpose is to instill confidence in our election.”

“Let me be perfectly clear on this, if it was 14,000 votes the other way, we would be doing the exact same thing… So, understand when you are really emotionally tied to the outcome, anything you see that feeds your belief if believed by you. So that is the rationale.”

Additionally, Sterling noted, the audit would be the largest recount by hand in United States history.

  • In a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe ends his opening statement saying, “I cannot stress enough the importance of focusing your efforts, and the attention of this nation, on the dangers of foreign influence on our elections. The Russians were successful beyond their wildest imagination in accomplishing their goals in 2016.”

McCabe added, “Please do not let the recent calm of the 2020 election lure the nation into a false sense of security.”

To the committee, he said, “It is up to you to ensure the nation recognizes the magnitude of the threat posed by foreign actors and take sufficiently aggressive steps to address it.”

  • The Senate came back into session today and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) discussed the 2020 election saying, “President Trump is 100 percent within his rights to look into any allegations of irregularities and weigh his legal options.”

Leader McConnell also said, “The core principle here is not complicated. In the United States of America, all legal ballots must be counted. Any illegal ballots must not be counted. The process should be transparent or observable by all sides. And the courts are here to work through concerns.”

He began his remarks noting, “by every indication, the 2020 election appears to have been free from meaningful foreign interference.”

Leader McConnell also spoke about the announcement from Pfizer about a potential vaccine, calling it a testament to the ingenuity of the private sector, and added, “We cannot give up on commonsense measures like wearing masks just because we’re tired of them.”

  • Election Update Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kennedy (D) told reporters, “I think what the president needs to do is, frankly, put his big boy pants on. He needs to acknowledge the fact that he lost and he needs to congratulate the winner."

Earlier in the briefing, Kenney said, “What we’ve seen on the streets outside the convention center was not anger or contention, but music, dancing, and celebration. As we predicted, the voters and residents of Philadelphia ensured the our city shined as an example of how to run an election correctly.”

The mayor also said “While some, including the president, continue to spew baseless claims of fraud, claims for which this team has not produced one iota of evidence, what we have seen here in Philadelphia is democracy, pure and simple.”
