As Hurricane Sally pounds her way across the Gulf Coast, consider that this is only the second time in history that there have been five tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean at the same time. The first was the infamous 2005 season that saw no fewer than 28 named 'canes. It was also the first and only time (so far) that they ran out of letters in the alphabet and had to start again with the Greek alphabet. The 2005 season saw the most intense tropical storm in the Atlantic ever: Cyclone Wilma. She packed central pressure of 882mb and gusts to 295km/h. But Katrina was the most destructive (in the USA ever), costng the economy $160 billion, despite "only" becoming the 4th most intense Atlantic storm in history. 2020 has one name left in the hurricane naming convention, Winifred, before we become 2nd in that stat too.
Spring sun shift. The weather is changing.
Juicy. A couple days ago it scarily cooked but now this swell is done, and summer strikes with the first soutie yeaster.
A thumping west swell hit the Western Cape overnight and after a small lull in the spring-time big wave scene, a few came through today, if a little slow. @grant.scholtz shot this gallery. Check it on Wavescape - Link in bio.
Just one of those days somewhere in Africa, North of the Cape, South of the border. #obtusewavereferencewithlargeafricanuscaninesittinginmycarfarfromthedesertbutclosetowheretheorblaystoresteveryday
A kiff weekend of waves in the Western Cape as Kataza the castaway baboon finds his way home to the deep south, Winnie the western leopard toad presents and Cyril the surfer waxes up. All in the Spike Report, put together exclusively for @discoverctwc by @spike_wavescape 🤙🌄😉💦🌊🌬️🌀
This is how much of South Africa will be at freezing levels early tomorrow as southerly polar air is pulled up by southerly winds between a high pressure system pushing in behind a receding low off the East Coast. See the video surf report for @discoverctwc by @spike_wavescape ... Link in bio.
Nothing's more satisfying than a blue screen on a weather map. That means zip, zero and zilch wind. With fun swell set for the weekend, things could get sublime at times in the Western Cape. See the video forecast by @spike_wavescape for @discoverctwc - link in bio. Go on over and like the guys at Discover CT for cool things to do and see in our neck of the hood.
60kt winds and 35ft seas in the peak westerly quadrant of this fiesty 992mb nugget bring interesting options for the East Coast of ZA on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Screengrab of wind gusts and significant wave height from WW3 taken at 6am Tuesday from Windy. 🔥🔥💨🌀🌬️🌀🌫️💦🌊🌊🌊
I wonder why no one is surfing Long Beach. 😳🦈🦈
