Every year, I make ornaments to mail out to clients. Usually it's just the couples whose weddings I photographed, but this year I also expanded it to my brand photo subscribers. I painted up some ceramic ornaments and personalized them with their business or their name. (This little guy was chipped, so I made him for myself.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's not an expensive gift, nor is it a brand name that can be hashtagged, but that's my 'thing' - I love to make gifts for people. I spend my December evenings knitting, sewing, painting, or lettering things that I probably could have purchased, but I didn't because I genuinely enjoy the process of creating. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm taking mostly half-days this week so I can do some last minute gift-making and also finish knitting a sweater I'm making for myself to wear on Christmas. I'm in the home stretch!
2018 photo sessions: DONE! In the last year I've shot jobs from Hawai'i to Paris, and worked with couples, wineries, restaurants, local shops, creative entrepreneurs, bloggers, makers, and more. It's been a whirlwind and I can't wait to keep it up for 2019. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ // Brand photos for @breewest, looking stunning (as always) in this perfect holiday red dress from @galmeetsglam.
As much as Christmas is about old traditions, for me it’s also about creating new ones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Jon and I don’t have kids, but that doesn’t stop us from coming up with our own fun ways to celebrate the season. A lot of it happens to involve food which is SO not weight watchers friendly. 🤷🏼♀️🍪🥃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In 2015, I bought this speculoos cookie mold from a wood shop in Belgium. It’s hung on the kitchen wall since then, and this year I’ve finally decided to try it to make some of Jon’s favorite cookies. The process was fun, and it was a chance for me to take a mid-day break from work to come press cookie dough. And the cookies? Well, this might have to be a ‘few times per season’ kind of new tradition.
Sitting in my town's adorable little local coffee shop before a meeting singing out loud to We Didn't Start the Fire, because I have an odd knack for knowing all the words to random songs from the late 80s and 1990s, including (but not limited to) Ice, Ice, Baby and Gettin' Jiggy Wit It. Schoolwork? Could never remember that. But song lyrics and movie quotes? I'm your girl. (I really am so uncool, you guys)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ // Look at this cheerful photo of @krystanormanphotography! Taken at @thequirk hotel in Richmond - you can have your photo taken on the pink couch if you join me in January for the Brand Makeover Sleepover. Visit www.thealiciabruce.com or the link in my bio to sign up. Only two spots left!
It's a weekend of cleaning, making, watching, sipping, and enjoying.
