Each month, our staff will wash, dry, and fold nearly 300 loads of laundry for those in our community. In the past year, we have seen a sharp increase in the number of guests who do laundry at our campus. To meet this growing need and help our community maintain their health and hygiene, we expanded our laundry program by adding four new washers and dryers to our campus. This week over 100 individuals in our community received a Covid Vaccine. @nashvillepublichealth hosted a follow up clinic at The Drexel House where many of our guests, residents and staff received their second dose. Additionally our neighbors at Neighborhood Health have begun offering vaccines at the Downtown Clinic to our participants who qualify as well. Many of these are the single dose shot which is especially important and helpful for those in our community. Most of the individuals we serve suffer from chronic health issues and often have a difficult time navigating the medical resources that they have available to them. We are just so grateful for our incredible partners who have helped advocate for our community and have gone above and beyond to make it accessible. March 3rd marks the feast day of Saint Katharine Drexel, founder of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, who dedicated themselves to serving Native Americans and African Americans. By her death in 1955, the Sisters had established over 60 elementary and high schools, including the Immaculate Mother Academy in Nashville. A portion of the school’s rectory is now part of the @roomintheinn campus and is affectionately called the Drexel House. Saint Katharine is considered the patron saint of racial justice and of philanthropists. We are inspired by her legacy of service and education for those who are underserved in the community and are proud to be a part of continuing that legacy of service for those who call the streets home. #stkatharine #thedrexelhouse #loveyourneighboryall

We received an email this week from a former guest who stayed with us last year. He asked us to pass on a message to First Baptist Church Goodlettsville, TN. "Please tell them thank you for the thermals they gave me last winter! It's coming in handy here in Alaska." What may have seemed like a simple gesture nearly a year ago is still helping this gentleman to stay warm and safe as he continues taking steps forward! #loveyourneighboryall #theINNcrowd #loveisapairofthermals

Some arrived on Sunday night before the snow & ice came in. They are staying close by so they can walk to work and make sure the campus is open on time. They are filling out paperwork in the snow and connecting our guests to resources! They have stayed for over 48 hours straight to make sure our guests had a host for two nights. To get to work, they walked to a main road so they could take the @wegotransit bus downtown and then walked the rest of the way to the campus. They are making breakfast casseroles, so our guests can have a hot meal tomorrow morning. They are offering hospitality in every way they know how. They are loving their neighbors and practicing the ministry of presence. It may be freezing outside, but the Room In The Inn staff are giving us all the warm & fuzzies!
