Let’s talk about morning sickness. Dreaded by some, welcomed by the many who waited and waited to conceive as a sign they are actually pregnant. Hands up if you were one of those?⠀ ⠀ According to @pregnancysicknesssupport 70-80% of women experience nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.⠀ ⠀ What has the Big Bang got to do with it? Well that is essentially what has just happened in your uterus, another ENTIRE HUMAN BEING is currently being created and it needs fuel! If you one of the lucky ones who experience nausea a few times a day that disappears when you eat, your body is giving you a very unsubtle nudge for food - it’s using energy at an unbelievable rate. Advice at this stage?⠀ ⠀ Rest.⠀ ⠀ Hydrate.⠀ ⠀ Avoid cake. ⠀ ⠀ Keep snacks on your person at all times, eat regularly (starchy carbs are your friend) and avoid foods that cause a sugar spike. You will probably find you can manage it easily. Acupressure on PC6 (the point on the wrist) with seasickness bands might also help.⠀ ⠀ If you are vomiting or the nausea is constant then perhaps acupuncture can help. How? Using a series of points we know can help calm the imbalances ‘thrown up’ by the new being on board, I recommend a couple of sessions a week until it abates, then weekly for the rest of the first trimester. You should feel markedly better within a couple of sessions.⠀ ⠀ For the extremely unlucky 1% of women who experience hyperemisis gravidarum acupuncture has been shown to reduce the intensity of the nausea and increase tolerance for food and drink but its a cumulative effect, with a commitment to a couple of treatments at week at least. When you feel that ill, this can feel like a challenge, hell, leaving the house is a challenge, but it’s definitely worth the effort. ⠀ ⠀ #qifortwo #morningsickness #acupuncturelondon #pregnancysupport #firsttrimester #babyonboard #acupunctureformorningsickness ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
TESTIMONIAL // ⠀ ⠀ “One of my biggest worries during pregnancy was that I would be induced. I wanted to avoid invasive sweeps and chemical inductions, but I knew that as a first time mother I would most likely be late and that these interventions would be continually offered to me when I was probably least likely to be able to make clear headed decisions. ⠀ ⠀ I started Claire’s Birth Well Package from 36 weeks and didn’t make the final session because I was already in labour. Not only did the acupuncture help with readying my body for labour but it eased the swelling I had in my feet and legs. ⠀ ⠀ Claire was a great support to me and I enjoyed seeing her weekly, asking her lots of labour, birth and baby questions, she helped me feel prepared and in control.⠀ ⠀ Claire taught my husband how to use acupressure during labour, which we used in the early stages allowing me to stay home a bit longer before heading to the hospital.⠀ ⠀ We also used the mother roasting kit, which I swear warded off some nasties, both mentally and physically, postpartum.⠀ ⠀ I have been recommending Claire to every pregnant woman I know and will continue to do so!”⠀ ⠀ #Qifortwo #birthwell #birthwellpackage #preparingforbirth #acupuncturecrystalpalace #acupuncturelondon #acupuncturebrixton #pregnancyacupuncture #induction #avoidinginduction ⠀
#Repost from the amazing team @breathinghub - if you are looking for a retreat to join this year I strongly recommend this, I was lucky enough to join one with this lovely bunch a couple of years ago and it was powerful work, really helped me get back into my acupuncture self after the birth of my son and resolve some stuff I had going on in the emotional body. The venue is also just wonderful. ・・・ Crystal bowls!! This is the incredibly talented sound healer and Transformational Breath facilitator @lucynejade and she’s just confirmed she will be joining us for the Yoga (with @vanessavinyasa) & Transformational Breath ( lucyne, myself and @breathgal) retreat in September on behalf of @resetretreats17. This will be @42acresretreat in Witham Friary. The combination of sound, breath and movement can be extremely Transformational and we have a few places still available.
ACUPUNCTURIST DIRECTORY If you are pregnant and you don’t already have an acupuncturist then there are local Acupuncture Childbirth Teams across the UK and I strongly recommend checking them out.⠀ ⠀ I’m a member of ACT London, a group of amazing women from whom I learn a lot. A professional study, members are required to have done postgrad training in approved pregnancy acupuncture courses. ⠀ ⠀ #qifortwo #pregnancyacupuncture #acupuncturelondon #actlondon #welltrained #supportingpregnantwomen #motherhood #healthyhappypregnancy ⠀
H E A R T B U R N // #qifortwo ⠀ The bane of some people’s pregnancies, this is something I have seen banished by acupuncture time and again.⠀ ⠀ Stomach 44 is an acupoint on the foot between the toes and it really is the most incredible thing, it almost magically basically drains heat from the stomach and is one of the main points used to relieve the symptoms. BOOM. Back in the dining room and bye-bye Gaviscon.⠀ #pregnancyheartburn #heartburnrelief #pregnancyacupuncture #alternativehealth #acupuncturecrystalpalace #acupuncturebrixton #acupuncturelondon ⠀

LOST AND FOUND // A Lesson in Balance⠀ ⠀ A couple of weeks ago my scooter got nicked and I lost my engagement ring. I have always practiced - or tried to - non attachment to material things. No one died, right?⠀ ⠀ So I had a FOR FUCK SAKE moment and go on with it. Two days later the police called to say my scooter had been found. No major damage. Two weeks later my ring fell out of my gardening glove. ⠀ ⠀ AND as a bonus my friend @misscjv found a necklace I had been given but never worn in its box on my path (why?!) and I realised I actually really like it and haven’t taken it off since.⠀ ⠀ What’s this got to do with balance? Rather than resist the unlucky losses and berate my bad luck with my amazing repertoire of fruity language and some undirected rage, I simply got on with it. This didn’t feel like something I was forcing - I’m back in the habit of regular acupuncture and balanced me is a lot less likely to get caught up in the unimportant stuff or the things I can’t change. ⠀ ⠀ For me, the path to balance is regular acupuncture, enough sleep, exercise and and the occasional disco. If I get that right,⠀ I eat better, laugh more, remain pretty calm and don’t sweat the small stuff. What works for you? ⠀ #dontsweatthesmallstuff #balance #acupuncturerocks #lifeiseasierwhenyouarebalanced #fiveelementacupuncture ⠀ ⠀
I am delighted to be running a workshop at this years Doula UK conference in June on acupressure in labour.⠀ ⠀ A Cochrane review (where they conduct a systematic review all primary research on a particular area of heath care or policy) showed that acupressure offers effective pain relief in labour.⠀ ⠀ Effective pain relief often means less drugs, less intervention and a way to relax into the natural high of childbirth.⠀ ⠀ There are also points I will be sharing with the Doulas attending which help aid cervical dilation, the descent of the baby, malposition and calm to aid the transition. ⠀ ⠀ I teach these points to couples as part of the Birth Well Package (link in bio) too - Do you think a stand-alone workshop for pregnant couples would be a good idea? I’ve been thinking about running one, let me know if that’s something you would do / would have signed up for.....⠀ ⠀ #QiForTwo #doulafest #doulauk #painreliefinlabour #acupressureforlabour #acupressure #birthwellpackage #naturalpainrelief
