This weekend has been a busy one! Eric (@texasyankee17) and I saw @zombieland this afternoon (loved it, very fun) and the movie makes a point (this is not a spoiler) that home is where your people are, not necessarily a place, and I so agree, but weekends like these (and the next few coming up) are such a good reminder of that. Weekend Happenings: 1️⃣ Social Sciences: Murder Mystery at @perotmuseum. Fun event and I love anything murder mystery related but man was I disappointed in myself for getting the answer wrong! 2️⃣ PKD of North Texas Walk! Eric and I are so excited to get more involved with the local @pkdfnorthtexaschapter and the event was really well attended and fun! 3️⃣ State Fair of Texas! I have lived here most of my life and have NEVER attended. And now I understand why! I really, really hated it 😂🙈 I have promised to give it another chance next year and play hooky on a weekday when there is WAY less of a crowd. But the food made me nauseated, I was injured on a ride, so hot and overwhelmed, and overall just anxious. Sorry #bigtex, I’m not a fan. 4️⃣ Game Night. I think a game night, pizza, and laughter with friends is one of the absolute greatest joys in life. Granted I was a bit of a bummer from the sun all day and still feeling off from the fair, but oh how I adore my @annieblackdallas and @laurenissmart. 5️⃣ If you want to hear how I ended my weekend, watch my story. If it’s past 24 hours, someone in Chicago hacked my #grubhub account and placed 3 orders (over $350). $100 of it was in pancakes which is honestly on brand for me and upsetting...big thanks to @grubhub though for rectifying this within 10 minutes of me calling! Now I’m closing out the weekend by watching @sharktankabc and eating @thedoughdough on the couch with my favorite human. Ahhhhh staying home. That’s really where it’s at.
If you’re a #solopreneuer or #teamofone, every single day is #nationalbossesday but today is the actual calendar holiday so I’m cheering you on extra hard today! Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. On this path some of use have chosen it’s often possible to end up stressed, worried about an unstable income, your work/life balance, and all the risks. But this post isn’t about those stressors or how to fix them, there are other days for that. Today I think you should CELEBRATE the choice you’ve made. Take the afternoon off. Catch up on tv or a hobby you’ve been neglecting. The whole point is to celebrate being the boss by making the choice NOT to be productive and grind for a few hours. This one day is for you and only you, boss!
Entrepreneurship can be extremely lonely. Most of the time we’re alone at our computers and often end up playing the comparison game on social media. Making connections can feel so scary, but LITERALLY the worst thing that can happen is someone doesn’t respond. Guess what? Someone else will. So reach out. Check on your people. Meet new people. Get vulnerable on this platform. Yesterday was #worldmentalhealthday but I’m not just talking about this stuff one day a year. Mental health is TOO important.
Today on the blog I’m talking about my favorite things from the past month!
Let’s get really personal. Today marks the start of Mental Illness Awareness Week. It is virtually impossible that you don’t know someone who is struggling. That person may be yourself. It may also be me. I suffer from and struggle through life with chronic depression and bipolar disorder. I have also struggled with an eating disorder and addiction as well as near crippling anxiety. They are a daily part of my life and I am (and always have been) very open to talking about it. I have been in and out of therapy most of my life, been of a cocktail of medications, even done inpatient treatment! Currently (and for the past several years), I am in a very good place in my life. And this is because I’ve found what works for ME. What works for me won’t necessarily work for you, but I can tell you that I know for certain that doing nothing and remaining a passive member of your own life will lead to no change and will improve and change nothing. I truly believe talking about mental health is the most powerful tool in combatting it. So LET’S TALK ABOUT IT! If you don’t feel comfortable dropping a comment below but have a question, feel free to DM me, I truly am an open book about this stuff.

Happy New Year! I know most of my followers are confused by that statement, so let me break it down. Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown tonight! The name Rosh Hashanah means, literally, head of the year or first of the year. Rosh Hashanah is commonly known as the Jewish New Year. This name is somewhat deceptive, because there is little similarity between Rosh Hashanah, one of the holiest days of the year, and the American midnight drinking bash and daytime football game. There is, however, one important similarity between the Jewish New Year and the American one: Many of us use the New Year as a time to plan a better life, making resolutions. Likewise, the Jewish New Year is a time to begin introspection, looking back at the mistakes of the past year and planning the changes to make in the new year, continuing through the Days of Awe and Yom Kippur. Personally I like to hope and think that a new year and new habits can happen anytime, not just on a calendar basis, but who doesn’t love an excuse to whip out a fresh notebook, start a fresh course, dust off an old skill, etc?! Other traditions include the blowing of the shofar and eating apples dipped in honey, a symbol of our wish for a sweet new year. 5779 was a big one for me, I said no when I needed and wanted to, I said yes when I needed and didn’t want to. My boyfriend and I moved in together. I attempted to embrace silence a bit more. I finally realized that being busy is not a badge of honor. I can’t wait to see what the new year brings. So cheers to 5780, friends! L'shanah tovah!
It’s the first day of fall! It may still be hot and humid in Dallas, but I am SO ready for everything fall! This is also my boyfriend’s first fall in Texas! Give me pumpkins, scarves, boots, and new tv! Below (in no particular order) are the five things I am MOST excited about this upcoming season. 1️⃣ Haunted Houses! This year we’re headed to at least two - @screamspark and FrightFest at @sixflagsovertexas. Anyone else LOVE being scared? 2️⃣ Going to the @statefairoftx! Excited to enjoy Big Tex, fried food, and the Ferris wheel all with my yankee guy for the first time. 3️⃣ Autumn at the Arboretum. The annual pumpkin festival at @thedallasarboretum is always such a treat. This year’s theme is It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and I can’t wait to experience all the Peanuts nostalgia. My guy and I are members of the Arboretum so we’ll likely go more than once. 4️⃣ Friendsgiving. I love any excuse to tell my people how grateful I am for them and @ecbwalker and @wpwalker1 genuinely make the only turkey I like. 5️⃣ For many Americans, fall means that football is back, but I’m just happy that I’m a few short weeks I can cheer on my @dallasmavs again. 🏀 Tell me what you’re most excited about!
