This beer is part of a fantastic worldwide collaboration organized by @otherhalfnyc to raise support for local hospitality, impacted by the pandemic. They’ve invited brewers from any corner of the planet to participate, providing a recipe and half a label. The other half of the label was cleverly up to us and we wanted to represent the town of Port Rexton and all its beauty, even during these crazy times. This iceberg is literally out front in the bay and was photographed by the very talented @dlethbridge Check out #alltogetherbeer to see the cans from all over the world. Even Hamilton’s very own @collectivebrew has one!
Studio Spotlight today goes out to Leslie at @nahana.designs Whenever I have an artist reach out asking for help creating their logo (which isn’t very often) I’m always incredibly honoured. This time was no different. Leslie’s travels around the world has inspired her to paint these beautifully colourful African pieces. I wonder what quarantine life will inspire her to try next 😉 When life isn’t on hold, Leslie’s pieces can be found at art shows all over the GTA. I bet she does curb side pick up as well. 🤗 Thank you for trusting me with your brand, Leslie!
This week my silkscreen class was supposed to start @dvsa.ca , sigh. This class was always my excuse to get away from my desk and to create for myself, rather than others. It put me in an environment with other creative souls and always gave me a strong sense of community. I’ve been going to The Dundas Valley School of Art, off and on since I was 18. It’s such an inviting space with so many amazing people that I miss. I can’t wait for things to return to normal, but until then I hope everyone is safe.
The power of the round logo! I can count on two hands how many times I’ve been asked to design a round logo this year. In the past it was rare for a client to suggest a shape, but due to social media and small devices we’ve seen a huge shift. I personally love round logos. The challenge of fitting all the communication into a condensed geometric form excites me! A few months back, @escarpmentkombucha asked if I would help them with their round logo. These are a few of the options I created for them and had a total blast! They’re located here in Hamilton, operating out of @yourkitchencoop and doing home deliveries every Wednesday. When you place an order, make sure you try the raspberry lavender, it’s ah-mazing! Thank you for this opportunity @escarpmentkombucha !!
Stock Exchange Bone Broth has been so incredibly busy keeping shelves stocked so everyone can make all those delicious home made soups they’ve been making! Jill released even more varieties this spring that you can find in the freezer section of your favourite grocery store. She’s also been doing a fabulous job keeping everyone in the Waterloo area updated on which boutique food stores are open and stocked up. If you haven’t tried bone broth yet, what are you waiting for? 🤗
Starting a business during a global pandemic wasn’t exactly what these two had in mind... but they’re progressing forward with such a great attitude! Coming soon to Locke St *Summer 2020* is the wonderful @function101locke I’ve had the pleasure of working with physiotherapist, Samantha and chiropractor, Eric these past few months and we have created a brand that captures their scientific approach to movement and manual therapy, and empowering clients to unlock the full potential of their bodies. I can’t wait to see the progress and growth to come! Big shout out to @shibui.photo for the wonderful photography.
The best design trend is to not follow one. Truth! Having a trendy brand can be such a great feeling... for 3 months, and then it falls flat and becomes a part of the past. They key to a strong, long lasting brand is to stay true to your core beliefs and create a mark and presence that is timeless. A brand that is flexible enough to ebb and flow with the trends, but hold its own. A brand that isn’t a follower, but a trailblazer. And a brand that isn’t afraid to take risks. Those qualities will give you a timeless foundation that will thrive through most situations. Do you have a timeless brand?
3 years has passed since I decided to start my own business. I can’t even begin to explain how many amazing people I’ve met along the way. I’m able to do what I love doing everyday because of all of you, so thank you. I’ll be sharing some new brand launches over the next few weeks, stay tuned!
Let’s look out for each other. Now more than ever we need to make smart choices to help keep everyone physically and mentally well. Thank you to all the essential and front line workers fighting this battle. Thank you to everyone that is supporting local businesses. And thank you to everyone else for #stayinghome. Now more than ever, I have felt such a strong community presence here in Hamilton. Shout out to friend and colleague, @jason_vandenberg for the awesome font!
We’ve been pretty quiet over here. Working away on some pretty awesome Hamilton projects. This one in particular is such a niche market and such a wonderful concept. The Compassion Project provides safe, confidential support for those that help others. If you’re in a profession where you always have to hold it together because you’re helping others, it can be challenging to reach out for support. Pauline and her team are here for you. It’s ok to ask for help. 🤍
I hope everyone has been having a wonderful break! Shutting down for 2 weeks was exactly what I need to recharge. This was a Christmas gift that I couldn’t put down. It’s honest but inspiring and exactly what I need to really step up my game for 2020. #workgoals #brutallyhonest #designstudio #clientlove
Hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is enjoying the holidays with family! This year we really reflected on how much waste there was once all the gifts were unwrapped. Next year will be a @joywrap.giftwrap Christmas! It's estimated that in one holiday season we use enough wrapping paper to wrap the planet NINE times! That's insane! The other wonderful thing about joywrap is that a tree is planted for every purchase. So much to love ❤️ Made here locally in Ontario too.
