Good moms don't need breaks... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thats what I told myself as I cried while my baby cried, sleepless and helpless. I've stared out the window of my laundry covered bed room thinking how this mess became my life. I've felt my anxiety rising, like physically felt it rising and wondered if I might actually break. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Motherhood is wonderful and magical and awful and hard. But when you're feeling all of the awful and hard and none of the wonder and magic? It's time to take a break. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Actually, it's past time. You feel spent because you ARE. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You ask yourself… how are you supposed to find the time or energy to take care of yourself when you have little ones relying on you to take care of them? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please listen to me carefully mama... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Love is limitless, but energy is not. You need to re-fuel. You need to fill your cup to come back stronger and happier. Your kids deserve a mom who is not spent. They need a mom who has both love AND energy to give. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A little goes a long way. A few minutes to sit in your car alone, getting your butt to a coffee shop, bookstore or a spa or the gym. Just somewhere you feel most like yourself will do. Maybe you just need a nap. Take one. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let go of the guilt. I know its hard but you’ll be amazed at how a little refueling can change your perspective on motherhood. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So mama, how are you doing? I mean, really doing? You say you’re fine. Can I be really honest? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm no longer motivated by a bikini body like I once was. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I spent a good 5 years of my life competing in fitness competitions because I wanted the body. The quest for sculpted shoulders, defined abs and lean legs dictated my every move... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Until I became a mom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So much exercise marketing is geared toward losing weight or getting sculpted or attaining the beach body you've always wanted. I'm guilty of this too with my programs - I talk a lot about burning baby weight and fitting into your pre-pregnancy jeans again. But it's so much deeper than this. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And while there’s nothing wrong with wanting a slimmer stomach or leaner legs, if that's what is important to you… that's not enough motivation for me anymore. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Feeling stronger and more energetic as I started working out regularly post baby for sure has helped me stay motivated. But nothing has inspired me to keep pushing more than the difference I've seen in my moods. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have more patience and get way less irritated when Emma is being fussy. I'm happier, more even keeled and higher vibration all around. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Exercise offers an outlet for the strains and stresses of motherhood. I always knew I should be exercising for my physical health and if I wanted to shed the excess weight. But I didn’t realize how much I needed it for my mental health. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A happier momma = a happier family. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So if you're a mom like me, who isn’t solely motivated by promises of a bikini body. If you know you should be exercising regularly but can't seem to make yourself do it. If you feel guilty taking time away from your little ones to exercise. Maybe it's time to shift your perspective. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you can't do it for yourself, do it for your family. What better motivation could there be?
SEXINESS IS A STATE OF MIND ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you dig deep and truly ask yourself: What do I want to be fit for? What do I want a full day of eating to look like? What do I want my best life to look like? What does a healthy happy me look like? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These answers will tell you way more about how to go about your health goals instead of copying someone else's way of eating and living that works for THEM. Focus on what makes YOU feel sexy, what makes YOU feel strong, what gives YOU energy, and what makes YOU the happiest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I've never been more content and comfortable in my own skin than I am now and I encourage everyone to let go of the number on the scale you were 10 years ago, and focus more on living and feeling your best. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Eat healthy to feel amazing, not to feel like shit because something you once bought doesn't fit anymore. One of the biggest demands on many moms's time each week is grocery shopping and preparing meals. Unfortunately around dinner time is the fussiest time of day for many babies, making it tough to prepare for dinner. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Getting into a routine and having easy yummy, nourishing recipes with all the ingredients on hand will make this time of day a lot less stressful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When I'm organized and take the time to plan meals and develop shopping lists, cooking dinner becomes more fun. I cannot stand getting to the end of a long day and trying to magically produce a decent meal from the random things in the cupboard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are my 3 steps to grocery shopping and preparing meals with ease... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣The night before, sit down with a cookbook or cooking magazine (I love my Fit & Full cookbook LINK IN BIO and Cooking Light), and pick out 3 or 4 recipes for the week. Make sure you having a protein, starch and veg component. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2️⃣Mark those recipes, and then create a shopping list for the ingredients. Lay the list out so that as other things come to mind (like toilet paper, toothpaste), they can be easily added. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3️⃣I also purchase organic frozen pizzas or another incredibly easy dinner option for one night a week (or more, depending on what I've got going on). One of the nights you can plan on cleaning out the fridge by eating left overs.
