I took this photo because I knew that as much as I disliked this place at that moment, one day I was going to miss this place. When my dad was sick and in the hospital, me, my sister, my stepmom, and Art would take turns spending 9 am to 9pm with my dad. Due to covid, Cedars only allowed 1 person to visit per day and once that person had checked in nobody else could visit that day. So whoever was there with my dad stayed from 9 am to 9 pm so he wouldn’t be lonely and so he had his family at every moment we were allowed there. That can take a toll mentally. For a whole month we stared out these windows knowing what the future held for us. I remember that every time I would get there I would put a smile on and a brave face for my dad but inside I felt like I was dying. I would go into the bathroom to cry so he wouldn’t see me and I would make myself come back out calm and collected. How it would hurt when 9 pm hit and I had to leave. I still hear him saying “bye mija.” All I wanted was to take him back to the comfort of his home. I would walk back to the car in tears because I couldn’t do that for him. The rollercoaster we endured at this place still hurts so bad but what wouldn’t I give to go back if even for just 1 minute and hold my dad’s hand again...to hear him call me “mija”...to take care of him. I remember one day, while I fixed his pillows, him telling me “what would I do without my daughters?” The question still remains, what will we do without him.

Woke up feeling a little defeated today. Just 3.5 months ago I was living a different reality. My world was whole. Now a piece of my heart is forever missing. I hope each night that I’ll dream with my dad so I can see him one more time. Grief is a monster. So unexplainable. Every day is a different experience. I am grateful for my husband, my kids, and our family that lifts me up every day. Losing my dad has shattered my heart and soul. I pray that one day I can think of him and only smile but for now all I can do is break with each memory, each photo, each reminder. I post this in case someone out there is going through losing a loved one. You are not alone. It’s helped me so much when I get messages telling me about your loss. For a bit I don’t feel completely lost. If putting my feelings out there helps 1 person, then putting myself out there will be worth it 💕 Sending you guys love this Monday.
