Hey Jax Parents! 👋🏻 Are you frequent beach goers? One of my favorite things about raising our boys in North Florida is being minutes away from the beach. It doesn’t matter if it’s an impromptu trip or a well planned beach day with all the yummy food and great company... ...we just love watching how having sand beneath their toes brings our boys so much joy. And I love thinking about how many memories they’ll have one day of building sand castles, splashing in the waves, and finding lots of neat creatures. Sometimes we just have our iPhones to capture the moments, but so often I bring my “real camera” because I love capturing all the fun. Which got me to thinking - maybe it’s time for a new type of mini session. Sessions that would capture what it means to raise our kids in beautiful sunny Florida. They would focus on candid moments - you’d come for a beach day and I’d be a fly on the wall! You can join in the fun and the photos or the kids can be the star of the show - but the most special thing about these would be that your kids would just get to have FUN! What do you think?! The past few weeks have been extremely busy because, in case you missed it in my stories, we’re moving! 😱🥳 Getting our house ready to list is definitely a crazy process. Most days it hasn’t sunk in yet that we won’t be here much longer. This is our first home and we’ve been here for almost 8 years! That means we’ve made so many memories - from the good (hosting photography workshops in our living room), to the not so great (sitting on the couch in uncontrollable tears because we weren’t pregnant...again), to the amazing (bringing both our baby boys home and rocking them to sleep in their nurseries). I’m so grateful for every memory we’ve made and how Michael and I have grown together in this sweet home. But now that the boys are getting older, we just need a little more space, including outdoor space! If they could be outside all day long they would. So we can’t wait to have an enclosed back porch and a bigger backyard for them to play! And Jacksonville friends and clients, maybe I should have led with this...but we’re not going far! We’re already in North Jax, so we’re just going a few miles north to Yulee! What’s your best moving tip? It’s been 8 years since we last moved and we had a lot less stuff then 🤣 We need alllll the advice!! Not to be creepy 😂...but there’s always someone watching! And you never know, they could be your next client. That’s a big reason why it’s so important to maintain your professionalism throughout the day - no matter what’s going down! So be kind, courteous, and go above and beyond. Because a great client experience extends past your interactions with your clients. It also includes working seamlessly with vendors, helping the wedding party have fun in front of the camera, and being willing to help with a task that might not be directly photography related. These two exude so much JOY and it’s so fun to capture. We photographed their wedding last year and I was over the moon when Heather reached out to schedule an anniversary session! They plan to get dressed up in their wedding day attire each year in a new city - but because of Covid and travel restrictions/craziness they decided to start their tradition right here in Jax! There’s not much I can say about 2020 that hasn’t been said. What a year, right? 😅 We have had our share of challenges, but I am thankful beyond words for the two little smiles in this photo. The other night they wanted me to rock them to sleep at the same time - something that has never happened before. I can’t even explain all the feelings I had sitting there in the dark with them, humming and cuddling. There was a time that I had no idea if I would ever be a mom and if the fertility treatments would ever work. And there have been many times since where I’ve questioned whether I’m really cut out to be a parent. So many doubts and worries. But moments like the other night, where I’m able to slow down, are such blessings. They’re the moments that overshadow the challenges. The moments I want to infuse into my forever-memory. I’m painfully aware that they won’t be little like this much longer - so I never, ever want to forget how big of a joy the small act of rocking my babies to sleep feels and is. Thank you, Lord. So here’s to 2021 - I hope it brings more joy than pain to us all. But I’m also going to soak in the last few days of 2020. 7 years in, and I still have nightmares before wedding days. Most often - the sun sets hours earlier than I thought it would, I show up to the wrong venue, I run out of batteries, my memory cards run out of space, my gear breaks... Thankfully, they’re just dreams 😅 Though I think the desire to never ever experience any of that in real life has fueled my drive to be prepared for any situation! Plans A, B, and C (and maybe D, E, and F 😂) coming right up! I spend a lot of time preparing for each wedding: ✔️creating a photo timeline ✔️brainstorming unique shot ideas for each couple ✔️sending over resources and lists so our brides feel confident that they’re getting the most out of their photo experience ✔️coordinating and connecting with vendors ✔️going over every list to make sure every detail is taken care of Our couples are so much more than clients to us, and their weddings are so much more than an event that we take photos at! I’ve always taken on a limited amount of weddings each year to make sure I can pour the same time and energy into couple’s experience with us. Last year we decided to take an even bigger step back from weddings because after our two boys were born, that time became more and more limited and precious. In 2021, we only have two wedding openings left! 😱 Pulling back on weddings has not only given me more time to spend with our own family, but it has also allowed me to open up more family sessions! I also decided to open up more mini session spots than usual this year! (🚨There’s only two spots left on the 21st, and a handful on the 30th!🚨) 2020s been quite the year, but today I’m feeling extra thankful for the pivots and changes. ➡️ What change are you thankful for this year?
