• More from The Freeport Fire and Police Departments responded to what was reported to be a building fire at Subway on South Main Street about 10:30 p.m. Friday March 5, 2021. First arriving Engine 211 found an MVA with a car into a building with fire. The driver of a Chevy Malibu traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Atlantic Avenue, went across South Main Street where it went through a parking lot and struck a parked Nissan Altima. The Altima hit a wall between a 79 cent store and a Subway store. The Altima was split in half with the front end going into the 79 cent store and the rest of the car and the Malibu crashed into the Subway store where the Malibu was now overturned. The driver of the Malibu was trapped in the car and the Alitma caught fire inside the building. Engine crews stretched three lines from Engine 211 with two going into operation to extinguish the fire and protect the firefighters and Nassau County Police Emergency Service officers  who were extricating the driver, which took just under an hour to do. The injured driver was taken to a local hospital by Nassau County Police Ambulance. The Baldwin Fire Department was on scene as the FAST truck and the North Bellmore Fire Department Technical Rescue Team along with Freeport Truck 1 used Heavy Reacues 2172 and 653 to remove the vehicles from the building.   • On Friday, March 5th at 10:29pm, the Freeport Fire Department (@freeport_fire_dept) was dispatched to a report of a Building Fire at Subway on South Main St.  Multiple units were immediately en route and advised by firecom there was a car into building with fire.  Engine 211 (@freeporthose1) quickly arrived on scene and advised they had a confirmed overturned car into the building with fire and a driver trapped.  2 cars were found to have entered the building, 1 of the vehicles, a parked car, was split into half by the other. Shortly after his arrival, Chief of Department Braun [2100] transmitted a Signal 10 (working fire) with active fire in the building.  At least 3 lines were stretched to extinguish the fire and protect the firefighters and NCPD ESU extricating the patient, who was reported to be conscious and alert throughout the rescue.  North Bellmore Technical Rescue Team (@northbellmorefd) was requested to the scene due to the damage to the building as well as a FAS Team from Baldwin (@baldwinfdny). The patient was extricated in under 1 hour and transported by Nassau County Police Ambulance to a local Trauma Center with unknown injuries. After the patient was extricated, the North Bellmore TRT alongside Freeport Truck worked to remove both vehicles from the storefront. All units were released from the scene at approximately 1am.

The driver of a Chrysler PT Cruiser traveling on Central Avenue lost control of the vehicle and went off the road up a hill and crashed through several fences in the rear yard before hitting the house on the corner of Thorne Drive. The vehicle came to a stop on the exterior basement stairs with the drivers side of the vehicle against the house. Bethpage firefighters and Nassau County Emergency Service officers removed the passenger door of the vehicle, then used a ladder as a high point and a pulley system to remove the female driver. The driver was taken by Nassau County Police Ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. Firefighters removed the vehicle from the staircase using two grip hoists secured to two trees in the yard.
