"Dinner lady arms, tuckshop lady arms, auntie arms - the sneering names we have for you all come back to women, soft and gentle women, nurturing women; the very arms that would often hand over food and a hug. "How do these descriptors for having fat on our upper arms become so laden with self loathing? How did the fear of letting others see our arms override our own physical comfort? It sounds silly and cruel writing this down. It doesn’t really sound like a good excuse for how I’ve treated you at all." Evie Kemp reflects honestly about learning to be kind and show love to a part of her body that some may rarely think about - although we imagine that many others out there do. Very cool breaking news: From June, all primary, intermediate and secondary schools in Aotearoa NZ will have access to free period products, a big step forward in reducing the impact of period poverty. “Young people should not miss out on their education because of something that is a normal part of life for half the population,” said PM Jacinda Ardern who announced the initiative in Hamilton today. 🩸🩸🩸
