Which TRUTHFULLY….is SO many of us! It wasn’t that long ago that as a coach and trainer I made some fundamental mistakes when it comes to female hormone health.🔴

🙅🏻‍♀️I pushed through the same intense workout programs every day, ignoring when my body felt tired and depleted…”embrace the suck right?!?” (WRONG)

🙅🏻‍♀️ I ate the same macro count all month long, battling energy dips and cravings and PMS…”mental grit is everything tight?!?!” (WRONG)

🙅🏽‍♀️ I had coffee for breakfast…I think they call this Intermittent fasting right?!? It’s supposed to be good for inflammation?? (Not in MY body)

When I found myself exhausted, 38, in my doctors office, certain I was in early menopause bc of how awful I felt, my life changed. 

It turns out nothing was “wrong” and yet everything was.

Here is what I learned that changed everything (my energy, my body, my insane PMS….)

1. Elevated Cortisol in the body stops your female body from being able to metabolize other hormones and stores them as fat, it also slows metabolism and amps overall fat storage…no matter what you eat.
2. Cortisol is elevated in the female body after 35.
3. Cortisol is elevated in the female body during the luteal and menstrual phase (that is HALF of the month) 
4. Working out at the same intensity and eating the same calories all month increases cortisol in the female body.
5. Caffeine generally (and especially on an empty stomach) increases cortisol and messes with blood sugar levels…increasing cortisol. 

No wonder women feel more exhausted, burnt out, stuck and frustrated in weight loss more than ever.

NO it is NOT just bc you are getting older and have to deal with it. (🙌Hands up if this has been YOU.)

When women reach the age of 35, we naturally battle a surplus of cortisol in the body...the hormone that commands full attention from the body, compromising all other processes that are important...

👉🏻Metabolizing hormones instead of storing them as belly fat
👉🏻Burning fat as fuel
👉🏻Repairing cells all over the body

...and when we calorie restriction or do hard workouts, we are consciously stressing the body out more, adding to the cortisol surplus. 

The MOST important thing that I can share as a hormone specialist and personal trainer to women over 35 is this:

If you are struggling with weight-loss and energy levels, the first step should always be a focus on Unstressing the body through rest, joy and nutrition....

Fitness should only come into play when you begin to see results and the body is balanced.

Once you are there, start with 30 minute workouts only, yoga through your menstrual phase and always always yoga to release stress in the body 1-2 x / week the rest of the time...

This is the way to your best body at any age...this is the way to honor your body so that it can do what it does best all on its own...

For 7 years (now 10) I had coached women to success on their weight loss journey’s with simple  but intense daily fitness and micronutrient dense shake….but suddenly many of the women I had worked with closely were disappearing around me…burnt out. They needed to “take a step back” from their goal and dreams. Had to “put other things first…didn’t have the time or energy any more to follow through on their own health goals…just weren’t feeling right.” I was stumped…sad…and also shocked…how come what had been working SO well for so many years…just stop. Not be enough any more. Did they need to hustle more? Was it ME? 

I woke again and again with that same thought often for 3 years. 

Then something happened. Those SAME words I heard from other women started to come out of my mouth.  I was feeling burnt out, run down….my afternoons were filled with brain fog, my workouts stopped working for me and felt like they exhausted me…my cravings and PMS started to get out of control…my skin felt like it was aging before my eyes and morning caffeine and evening wine began to bookend my days…night waking stopped being bc of my kids and more often bc of my own racing heart. 

Was it time for me to give up on my dreams and goals? Was this what aging felt like?

A year and a half ago I dove deep…I read everything and took courses on anything I could find on the female body and researched into female hormones and….WHY a continent of women who had the largest health and fitness market...were S T R U G G L I N G to be healthy and fit. 

I learned what my body had been screaming at me one symptom at a time. I learned… ALL of these symptoms…were symptoms of a stressed body…and it was going to keep going in this direction if I didn’t do something about it.

My reminder for you: listen to the little voice in the night. If something doesn’t feel right…don’t wave your white flag. DIVE DEEP into figuring out how to FEEL the way you SHOULD feel at any age. Energized, Happy, Free.
