Shinrin-yoku. ⠀ Forest-bathing. ⠀ 🌲🌲🌲⠀⠀ ⠀ It’s the Japanese custom of taking in the forest through your senses for improved health and happiness.⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Forest-bathing. Shinrin-yoku. Have you heard of it?⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I hadn’t until about a year ago, but it is something I’ve intuitively done for a long time.⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I jokingly call it “nature therapy” but truly that is what it is for me. So much calm, peace and clarity comes to me by spending intentional time in nature.⠀ ⠀ Have you ever forest-bathed before? ⠀ #treelady⠀ #forestbathing ⠀ #naturetherapy⠀ ⠀ 🌲🌴🌳🌵🌿🎋⠀ ⠀⠀ Welcome to our #self_love_sunday_loop. I have teamed up with a group of other talented artists, whom all share a passion for photography. We are encouraging each other to dig into our creativity through a series of self-portraits. We hope you will follow along with us on this journey. Next up is the lovely @halonaphoto ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The news reel has me on a rollercoaster of emotions. 🎢 ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🦠 The Covid outbreak is worsening in America due in large part to the ineptitude, ignorance and dictatorial desires of the orange man at the helm. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🚫👮🏻♂️Racist police continue to harm and kill black men even with the whole world watching. #justiceforelijahmcclain #justiceforrayahardbrooks ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🗳 Government officials in Kentucky enacted corrupt + racist measures in attempt to suppress the Black vote on Tuesday’s contested election. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 😤 Not one of Breonna Taylor’s murderers has been arrested or charged three months later. #justiceforbreonna ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This sh*# is infuriating and unjust. 🤬⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yet, interspersed in all of this horror, pain and injustice, I see signs of hope and light seeping in.⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✔✔✔ Major progressive victories were won on Tuesday’s primaries with Jamaal Bowman, Mondaire Jones, AOC, and I’m still hopeful for Charles Booker.⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📖 🧠 BIPOC have long led liberation struggles in our country and the American hypocrisy is nothing new for them. But I see and feel a consciousness shift happening in white America. For many it is a sudden awakening and for some a deeper understanding of White privilege and to the atrocious realities of our country’s real history and present day dysfunction steeped in white supremacy. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🛠 Statues are coming down all over the country not only of Confederate generals but also of many of our country’s former leaders who were murderous enslavers and bigots. We get to now decide what values and ideals we commemorate in the public sphere. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🏫👏🏾 School districts across the country are starting to cut ties with police departments. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✊🏾✊✊🏿✊🏻 Parents are heeding the call and doing the work to raise a new anti-racist generation.⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m grateful for these victories and celebrate them. The harm and pain that continues reminds and recommits me to the struggle we are in. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let’s hold every human life with the cherished love they deserve like this Mama and her brand new baby. Let’s continue to do the work! #blacklivesmatter

Becoming a mother opens a new wing in your heart. You think you’ve always known how to love, and you have. But it’s only after your child arrives that your love takes on new shades and textures your heart hadn’t even known existed. Your capacity for care expands. It’s a love not based on reciprocity or conditions, but on existence alone. You care for your child simply because he or she is yours. And that love can’t help but spill over into other spheres in your life. It’s a revival of the senses. -Alicia Keyes, More Myself

I feel like we are collectively standing on the edge of a cliff and our awakened and whole-hearted future lives depend on our attention and focus to the work at hand. This is a moment, a movement... when we can look out from the edge and see the faint yet glorious version of what is yet to come. But we can’t fall off the cliff, nor opt out of the work, turn our backs to it... we must stay focused, eyes on the prize. So my question to myself every morning - and I hope you’ll join me in making this a morning ritual too- I ask myself “what am I going to do today to fight white supremacy? And I make it a point to do something. Every day. We all will work toward this goal in different ways, and have different skills and capacities, but our collective liberation depends on it (and if you are not sure what kind of work you could do to fight white supremacy, feel free to drop into my DMs and I’m happy to be a thought partner on that) #letsdothework #fightwhitesupremacy #dontlookaway #blacklivesmatter

DAR A LUZ 🤰🏽✨🤱🏽 It means ‘to give birth’ in Spanish but the word-for-word translation is something more akin “to give to light.” It’s one of the expressions that I find far more beautifully conveyed in one language over another. To give to light - Dar a luz. The power, joy, hope, love and light that I witnessed while documenting this sacred homebirth moment was one I will never forget. Thank you for trusting me to be present and record these treasured memories @_fermoreno_ #sanfranciscohomebirth #birthphotographer #sanfranciscobirthphotographer Attending midwife: @sfmidwife

I’ve been quiet on my feed this past week as I tried to #amplifymelanatedvoices in my insta-stories. It’s been quite a powerful week and I am seeing a reflection of what America could be. There are some really powerful and concrete changes starting to happen. Let’s continue listening and following the lead of Black leaders and organizers, doing the internal work, reflecting, showing up to protests, signing petitions, donating, calling and putting pressure on our elected officials and raising our voices. This feels like our time for true liberating change! Social change can happen when we collectively demand it! #powertothepeople ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No Justice- No Peace! Know Justice - Know Peace! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Until we live and breath justice for all. #blacklivesmatter ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✊🏾✊✊🏿✊🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” -Martin Luther King, Jr. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BLACK LIVES MATTER.
