As some of you already have heard, I'm sad to say I'll be leaving Seattle soon to pursue a microbiology PhD across the country. If you're in the #Seattle area, come scout my garden for new bonsai material before I leave next month. I have many #seedlings, #prebonsai, and some more mature raw material ready for styling as well. Sadly, I can't take all my #bonsai with me! Check the link in bio for more details.
Black pines get a lot of love in the summer, but don't forget now is a great time to prune azaleas for ramification and backbudding as well! This old, gnarly azalea shows just how easily it back buds on old wood in the third pic. #Bonsai #elandangardens #azalea #pruning #backbudding #summer #growth #DanRobinson #gnarlybonsai #elandangardens #boysandgirlswithplants #boyswithplants #men_and_plants #crazyplantpeople
New YouTube video from my conversation with @bellcraze and @bontsai_ is up! What are your #bonsai pet peeves? Link in Bio. More of these #BonsaiBuds highlights will be drip, drip, dripping onto the channel throughout the week.
"No Justice, No Peace" These bonsai displays honoring #GeorgeFloyd were a way for me to channel my sadness and frustration over the recent events in our country. However, when I finished, making these displays, they left me feeling empty. George Floyd should be alive today, but the least I can do is use my creativity to try to start conversations in a community that might not normally be confronted with the realities of police brutality. I hope these displays make each of you reflect on how we as a nation got to where we are and think about how we can work to change our country for the better. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for ALL. That's the dream - let's make it a reality. -------------------------------------- Feel free to message me if you want to talk further about this subject. I'll share additional resources for what we can be doing to help #blacklivesmatter on my story. This was a truly collaborative endeavor as the charcoal portrait of George was made by my talented friend, @Jan_sport12. My camera got rained on at the protests last weekend and is currently sitting in rice, so thanks also to my friend Hiep who let me borrow his DSLR and helped set up the photo shoot. Lastly, thanks to my sister and brother-in-law, Nicole and James, for giving me parts of their broken chimney which were used for the bonsai stand and the pile of bricks. #bonsai #memorial #rip #threepointdisplay #canon #Seattle #Minneapolis #art #handsupdontshoot #icantbreathe #nojusticenopeace
