• Another one from Ian Talboys, the theme is FROM my window not ON my window! I guess the snail didn't know.
Ian found the snail on his conservatory window one morning, he says: giving me a different view from my window of the snail resting, or may be the snail was wanting view of me when it woke up!

  • Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a garden like James Adler's (yesterday's photo). Suzy Allen lives in a built up Buxton, in the HEART of the very green Peak District. Suzy moved into her ground floor flat last year and is working to covert her small 1m by 2m grey and dismal concrete yard outside my door into a green oasis. Along with her neighbour she's busy planting lots of stuff in pots. She says: Against the backdrop of my neighbours old barn, we have so many birds, insects, bat's, moths that visit it, it brings the outdoors in. Proving there are no barriers to wilding or greening....

  • CJS is an ethical company, we try to deal fairly with all customers both readers and advertisers and try to be as 'environmentally friendly' as possible working to the best practice for sustainability, recycling and waste awareness.
As part of our commitment to keeping a healthy planet and to help with offsetting the carbon generated in producing all the CJS publications and keeping the website online we've signed up to plant trees with 9Trees and here are the first ones being planted, in March just before lock down. For CJS this is not a one off planting, we've signed up to help care for the trees through their life.
9Trees planted the first trees for the project across two sites in mid-Wales on 13 March. In all 1375 trees were planted in one day, mostly oak, birch, rowan, hawthorn and willow with a small mix of hazel, dogwood and cherry. Trees need some protection too and they also installed 300m of fencing to protect the trees from livestock.

  • I can do it!
Another photo from James Adler's small Surrey garden - he certainly gets all the interesting birds! This time it's a young moorhen which he says: was a new species to the garden, was tight roping along the garden fence! I have not seen this before here but she had a lovely time feasting on bird droppings!

  • Despite the majority of the country still being (officially) in lockdown regular life in the countryside carries on. Our animals neither know nor care that we're living in the new normal and for Tracey's horses that means they still need to have their feet and hooves checked and trimmed regularly.
Here's Shanti getting her regular pedicure last weekend, not in the least concerned and happily tucking into her hay.

  • Ian Talboys has sent these lovely finches from Inverurie.
He says: During the grey times of Covid-19 restrictions I had some bright colour in the view from my window with a pair of siskins and a pair of bullfinches on a seed feeder at the same time. Something to cheer up the time working from home!
They're certainly a colourful addition.

  • The wildlife might not have got the idea of social distancing but these fishermen near the dunes on Aberavon Beach were certainly keeping their distance, all focused on the water and dreaming of what they might catch. iPhone photo by Richard Tumelty on 29 May this year.

  • James Adler has sent us three entries all from lockdown in my small garden in Surrey.
I wish we got such exciting birds in our garden! Here's a lovely Little Egret. James says: There is an old monolith oak tree outside my bathroom window. All sorts of things perch on it but this Little Egret went to town having a full wash and brush up for twenty minutes. Normally she would have been frightened away by the number of people using the footpath but in lockdown she had it all to herself.

(more from James in the coming days!)

  • Another CJS Team in lockdown post, an update from Greenend this time.
Due to the extra time at home Mr W (who is usually out and about looking after other people's gardens) has managed to cultivate a second veg patch and production is in full swing. Doesn't that look lovely? I spy spuds, beans, cabbages and ruby chard (I think). Amy says: All the more for me to harvest later in the year but enjoying home grown salad already. Their pet lambs are happy and growing well, although I'm not sure sheepdog Edmund it entirely certain about being crowded by the lambs, they do have an ear nibbling tendency.
