I wanted to share a story with you from our Kazlaw Community winner last year, Randy Pruden last year. Randy was diagnosed with a severe traumatic psychological injury ( PTSD) the day the short list of nominees was released. The day he won the Kazlaw award was the first day of treatment in a sixteen week treatment program. Rider orientation/check in was eighteen weeks away! The big goal he set on his first day in the program was to be able to survive the #bestweekonabike Getting to the start of each stage was a battle. All my systems were overwhelmed with too much stimuli and the fear of everything! I fought back the urges to quit by using skills I had learned in my program and alternated suffering and fun in somewhat equal parts to make it to the finish every day for a personal victory. I met amazing people with amazing stories from all over the planet, I saw views and random things I wouldn't have noticed if I was “racing”, with nothing to lose I waited for the downhills and tech sections to clear of traffic so I could enjoy some of the best trails in the world to their fullest. I rode with my head up, and used the race as an indicator of how far I had come. Crossing the finish line in Squamish and receiving my belt buckle was an incredible achievement both physically and mentally. I would like to thank Marc Kazimirski for donating an entry to the BCBR for community builders, the staff and volunteers of the BCBR for putting on such an amazing world class event, and to the builders, trail gnomes, trail fairies, advocates and host communities for creating some of the best trails in the world, and last but not least the BCBR staff for convincing me I could survive the journey Randy Pruden, Valemount, BC We keep in touch with Randy and like to hear his updates, he’s still on the road to a full recovery but has come so far in the past year, he looks back and thinks what a mess he was back in July..... so that’s a good sign that the progress has been huge when you can say that. We wish him all the best in 2019!! A new member of the alumni and a new member of the BCBR family.

Pick your partner wisely. 7 days of riding (together), 7 days of tenting (together) ....... 🤔 No but for real... you do want to find a riding buddy that your equal with, same skills on the technical, same speed ⬆️& ⬇️ same temperament and same end goals. #teamtraining #mtb #goals
If you like to geek out on tires, forks, cogs and other tech stuff take a look at the Bike Checks in our insta story highlights. Compare your planned setup to what some of the pros did last year. #tiptuesday #biketech #bcbr2019 #mtb #instastory
Ask us about our trails.... they aren’t all the same and they seem to take on an alter ego in certain conditions.... and Vancouver is famous for rain 💦 Don’t show up to BC blind, know what your getting into, ask questions, watch videos and come pre-ride the trails if you can. #motivationmonday #bcbr2019 #trails #mtb
Just out for a casual ride in Powell River at full throttle with heart rates jacked through the roof. #mtb #bcbr2018 #stagerace #powellriver
#testimonialtuesday It makes our day when people share how we impacted their lives. “Being from Vancouver I felt like I had something to prove and also being a roadie felt that I had even more to prove to myself - on the dirt. The north van stage was one that I had ridden many many times I was ready for it. The emotions overcame me when I finished that stage - not right after, but as i made my way up to the final stage in Squampton. The sunshine, the coastline, the ocean, it was all too much - I found myself sobbing like a child - tears of joy and accomplishment. There is no better bubble to experience seven days of fully immersive mountain bike riding, culture, and dreaming. What a way to experience this epic part of the world riding single track for a week with a whole horde of fantastic folks.” Brad Pashby

It’s that time of the year where some of us hang up the bike for ski’s and that’s to be expected but just don’t pack in the training and fitness for too much food and festive drinks over the next few weeks. Stay on track and power through to the new year! We all know New Years resolutions don’t work 🤣 📸@davesilverphoto
We have a pretty tight family at BCBR, some people stay for a year, most people stay for multiple and a large bunch have even been there from the beginning! @lancefryling has been with us for 12 years in many capacities and keeping a lot of logistics rolling smoothly. To the outside world he would most be known for his bacon station. Lance is moving on to a new chapter in his life, new job, new city, new adventures and we wanted to wish him the best! With all the change in his life we are happy he’s still gonna be dishing out the bacon!! #bcbrfamily #bcbr
