Year 2 have been busy in Design and Technology making their own dips 🥕🥒
The children practised safe food preparation skills, including grating, mixing and tasting, while learning how ingredients can be combined to create different flavours. A great opportunity to develop independence, teamwork and confidence in the kitchen.

Year 1 have been developing their design and technology skills through sewing 🧵✨
The children showed excellent concentration as they practised threading needles, following simple stitches and working carefully with fabric. A great example of perseverance, fine motor control and pride in their work as they learn practical skills step by step.

On Friday, the Eco Committee welcomed Lauren from RAFT (@retrofitaction) who lead a workshop on decarbonisation. We had learners from Year 2 to Year 6 learning about the impact of the increase of carbon in the environment, its cause and how we can reduce carbon emissions. The focus and passion with which the students engaged with the session was truly inspiring. As you can see from the photos, all of the students were taking notes, asking great connections and making wonderful connections to the world around them. We are lucky to have such a dedicated group of children working towards climate justice here at Bevington PS. Here are some of the photos from the session and some of the important reflections from the session. Well done Eco Committee, Ms Oudomvilay is very proud of each of you!

This week, Year 4 learnt how to multiply numbers beyond the 12 × table by using flexible partitioning. It was a challenge for many, as it involves following several steps to calculate the total accurately. Working in groups, the children used Numicon to model each equation and then represented their thinking using part–whole models to show both the method and final answer. This important groundwork prepares them for more advanced written multiplication in Year 4 and in the years ahead. We are so impressed with how Year 4 approached and conquered flexible partitioning this week. Well done, Year 4 mathematicians!
At @bevingtonw10 our Maths curriculum is built on a mastery approach, ensuring pupils deepen their understanding through practical modelling, structured reasoning and carefully sequenced steps. This week’s work with flexible partitioning shows how children learn to break complex ideas into manageable stages, helping them build strong foundations for more advanced multiplication methods in the future.

Year 1 had a lovely morning going on this week’s shape walk around school with Winnie the dog. The children explored the environment, spotting circles, squares, rectangles and triangles all around them. There were lots of curious questions, careful looking and plenty of happy wagging tails. Well done, Year 1! 🐾✨
At @bevingtonw10 our Maths curriculum follows a mastery approach, giving pupils the time and experiences they need to build deep, secure mathematical understanding. This week’s shape walk helped children connect their learning to the real world, supporting them to recognise, describe and reason confidently about the shapes around them. It was brilliant to see their independence and enthusiasm shine through.

PE with a twist! This half term, Year 4 are developing their co-ordination, position and direction skills in PE. We will be challenging ourselves with a series of obstacle courses with a range of individual, paired or team tasks. In this lesson, we practiced climbing up onto a horse, balancing on beams, jumping over hurdles and weaving in and out of cones. These skills develop whole body awareness, promote whole body thinking and continue to refine balance and other gross motor skills. We finished the lesson with an activity called a trust fall. It was an invigorating session for us all!

Earlier this month, our Year 3 children enjoyed a fantastic guided tour at the National Gallery. They explored different types of portraits before sketching a rider for Whistlejacket, the famous horse painted by George Stubbs. Their creativity and attention to detail were brilliant to see.
Experiences like this sit at the heart of our wider curriculum at Bevington. We want every child to connect their classroom learning with real-world art, culture and history, helping them build knowledge, curiosity and confidence across the curriculum. 🎨🏛️💛
