For Year 1 in Music, we launched our new unit What Can You Hear?, where children explored how music can represent different things. Using Flight of the Bumblebee, they listened carefully to how fast notes can show the movement and sound of a bee, before responding through movement and using their bodies to match the rhythm and pace. It was brilliant to see pupils making connections between sound, movement and imagination as they began to think like young musicians.

At @bevingtonw10, our knowledge-rich Music Curriculum ensures pupils develop a deep understanding of how sound can be used to represent ideas, building strong foundations in listening, performing and creating. A great week of exploring and bringing music to life ๐ŸŽถ

A fantastic first week back in EYFS, with the children settling quickly and approaching their learning with real enthusiasm.

In Nursery, the children have been exploring The Queenโ€™s Hat, listening carefully, discussing what they can see and using descriptive language to talk about the hat and its journey. They then applied this in their own work by designing and decorating their own hats with great care and attention.

In Reception, the children have been immersed in The Kingโ€™s Pants, working collaboratively to solve the mystery of the missing bag. They used clues, shared ideas and practised retelling the story using time words such as first, next and then.

Across EYFS, children have continued to develop their phonics, early writing and number skills through well-structured activities, alongside purposeful outdoor learning and play.

A real highlight of the week has been watching our caterpillars transform into butterflies, providing a meaningful opportunity to observe change and growth over time.

A strong start to the term, with plenty more to come.

A great Maths lesson in Year 4 last week as pupils were introduced to tenths using a place value chart ๐Ÿ“Š

Using practical resources, including a place value chart and cubes, pupils explored how tenths relate to ones, building their understanding through hands-on learning. This supported them to become more fluent in recognising and representing tenths with increasing confidence.

This was brand new learning for many, but pupils approached it with focus and determination, showing strong understanding as the lesson progressed.

At @bevingtonw10 we prioritise securing key mathematical concepts through clear modelling and practical resources, ensuring pupils develop confidence and accuracy as they build their knowledge over time.

What a brilliant experience for our Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils this week as they welcomed award-winning author and illustrator Tor Freeman into school ๐Ÿ“š

Pupils were completely engaged as they listened to her talk about her journey as a writer and illustrator, exploring how ideas develop into stories and characters. There was real excitement in the room, with plenty of laughter and thoughtful questions, showing just how much they connected with her work.

Moments like this play such an important role in building a genuine love of reading. Seeing a real author bring stories to life helps pupils to see themselves as readers and writers, sparking creativity and curiosity across the curriculum.

At @bevingtonw10 we place Reading at the heart of our curriculum, and opportunities like this help to deepen pupilsโ€™ understanding and enjoyment of texts in a meaningful way.

Itโ€™s been a busy week in our Science Club. Pupils set up a controlled experiment to grow colonies of microorganisms, carefully considering variables and making thoughtful predictions throughout.

They also began creating a glossary of different microorganisms, strengthening their scientific vocabulary and deepening their understanding of how these organisms live and grow.

At @bevingtonw10, this links directly to our Science curriculum, where pupils develop knowledge through enquiry, observation and precise use of subject-specific language.

A reminder that bookings for Summer Term clubs are now open on MCAS. Please make sure you secure your childโ€™s place.

Last week, our Year 4 to Year 6 pupils had the incredible opportunity to take part in a live online Science assembly with the award-winning scientist Dr Rosa Vรกsquez Espinoza ๐ŸŒฟ

Pupils explored her work in the Amazon rainforest, asking thoughtful, open-ended questions about biodiversity, environmental conservation and what it takes to become a scientist. From curious discussions about wildlife to deeper thinking about protecting our planet, this was a powerful moment of real-world learning brought directly into our classrooms.

We were so impressed by the quality of questions and the confidence shown by pupils representing their classes during the live call. A brilliant example of our knowledge-rich curriculum in action, connecting classroom learning to global scientific work ๐ŸŒ

Take a look at Year 1โ€™s brilliant gargoyle designs ๐Ÿ‰ Pupils explored the features of Southwark Cathedral before designing their own gargoyles, thinking carefully about both appearance and purpose. There were some fantastic ideas, with pupils considering how their gargoyle would look and what it would do, applying their knowledge of architectural features with real thought and creativity.

Check out Year 5โ€™s brilliant Maths learning ๐Ÿ”ข Pupils have been developing their understanding of decimals and percentages, exploring place value, comparing and ordering decimals, and making links between fractions, decimals and percentages.

There has been a strong focus on reasoning and problem solving, with pupils applying their knowledge to a range of questions and explaining their thinking with confidence. A great example of pupils building fluency and depth across key mathematical concepts.
