*NEW PROJECT ALERT* It’s Not Ok…. Since lockdown, there has been reported 25% increase of people ringing domestic abuse services. The UN has called this a ‘shadow pandemic’ with many people trapped at home with their abuser or without access to services or counselling. Add to this is the impact Covid-19 has had on our mental health and many people are now returning to toxic relationships for support during the crisis. The Writing Bloc’s It’s Not Ok project offers a dedicated space for women who have experienced or are vulnerable to domestic abuse. Led by writer Margy McShane, the course will help women grow in confidence, be creative, share their stories and challenge the stigma surrounding their experiences. Now more than ever, writing is a tool to help us reflect, make sense of and redefine our personal narratives; with this project supporting all participants to feel part of a creative community here at The Writing Bloc. Over 12-weeks, participants will work with Margy McShane to create new writing for publication in a professional online anthology. *NEW PROJECT ALERT* Time to Breathe This project, led by artist Cheryl Martin, is a call to action. As the Black Lives Matter movement grows stronger and stronger there is a need for black voices and experiences here in Liverpool to be documented and shared. Time to Breathe will offer Black and Asian writers, creatives or individuals in the Liverpool City Region an online space to explore and discuss their experience of race in Liverpool and beyond. Changing the narrative on race is critical as more black people are disproportionately dying from Covid-19, police brutality is exposed globally and the rise of the right-wing is starkly apparent in the UK. This Writer’s Bloc project will help participants be creative, share their stories, develop new skills, and grow in confidence. Over 12-weeks participants will work with Cheryl to create new writing for publication in a professional anthology.
