• Black Lives Matter.
My heart breaks for the hurt, pain, and injustice the black community is experiencing and has been enduring for hundreds of years through systemic racism.  I am disgusted by the recent events.

I have so much to learn as an ally in progress.  It's uncomfortable but we need to sit in this and feel that discomfort.  We need to grow and CHANGE.  I am taking responsibility for my own education because the resources are out there and I will no longer be an inactive ally.
I'll be sharing actionable next steps from black educators - like my friend @itstashhaynes and @laylafsaad @lisasharper , in my stories and hope you join me in learning and taking the next steps towards radical change.

As a Christian, I see the impacts of privilege and racism within the global church.  Jesus called us to love our brothers and sisters and man, we have to be better. Our love has to be deeper and bolder than our desire for comfort.  We have to DO BETTER.  I commit to sharing Jesus' love, engaging in hard conversations, standing up against the injustice and having empathy and compassion as we work towards healing.  I also want to take action not just in my heart but in my community.  I was planning on joining the "Muting" movement because I want to create space to amplify the voices that need to be heard.  I love the intent and want to show solidarity but I do not  want to be silent.  I want to use my voice and steward my privilege to share the voices of others, to share educators and resources.
To my black brothers and sisters - I'm sorry it took me so long to take more action and become more engaged in this conversation.  I am committed to being your ally as my long term plan - not just a short lived social media post.

God - we need you. I pray for a radical change in the hearts of this nation, for justice, for protection, for unity, for comfort and love. #amplifymelanatedvoices #blackouttuesday #selah

  • “Our favorite memory was when we exchanged private vows prior to the ceremony. Chris and I have always been fairly private and PDA has never felt like us, however, we knew we wanted to write our own vows. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I thought about writing my own vows, I was so nervous about sharing such personal thoughts and feelings in a real, raw and “us” way. I kept thinking of the audience- our friends and family- and what they would want to hear and how they absorb my words to Chris. With every backstory or context for an inside joke, I was worried that the message I wanted to share with Chris on our wedding day would be muddied while trying translate it to others. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤️So during our first look, we shared private vows with each other. It was real and raw and it felt like us. We wrote our vows in the leather-bound journal that we’ve had for years (and when we were long distance we used to send the book back and forth to each other. Even after reuniting, this is where we write messages to each other on birthdays, anniversaries and Valentine’s Day. Our vows became yet another chapter in this story of us." 🌿🌿Check out Jamie + Chris' beautiful and intentional Karma Vineyards wedding on the blog! • Mariza chose to sign up for her empowerment session, 2 MONTHS after having her baby and her session was so powerful! 💥🔥⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"Kelly and Angie!
First off- DAMN, you are both amazing at what you do! Look at these!!! WHOA! I have been at a loss of words since opening the email on Friday. Seriously, I have no idea what to say. I can't stop look at each picture. The makeup, the hair, the lighting, the poses...it is all so stunning! (And Kelly!!! Getting them all to me in 1 week is some serious hustle!)👊🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨These pictures and the experience of the photoshoot mean more to me than I could ever express in words to you. As you know becoming a mom is a beautiful thing filled with many highs and lows. Most of the highs are celebrated by pictures, IG posts, and texts to family and friends. ✨The lows are most times experienced in the early hours of the morning when you are all alone and exhaustion overwhelms you. ✨The world does a lot to help you celebrate the highs and the birth of a newborn (hello all the baby gifts/parties!) but rarely do we do anything to celebrate and care for the new mom that is born. The day that new baby is born, a new mom is also born and the transition can be emotionally overwhelming. ✨This photoshoot was my celebration of my mom birth! On July 30th, I become a mom and I haven't had the chance to celebrate that and love myself for that transition. The hours I spent with you ladies accomplished just that. I left our time together so incredibility empowered to be the best mom I can be, to love myself fiercely, and to embrace this new chapter in my life. ( 😭😭❤️❤️) ✨I have given myself permission to mourn life before becoming a mom but to find blessings, love and excitement in the life I have now. This is all so powerful and I hope you realize none of it is possible without you two very special ladies!” 😭😭❤️And SWIPE to hear @mirlun5 share her experience! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don't miss out on $75 OFF! The Empowerment Sale goes til 5/17! Snag a gift card for you or a woman you love!

  • I have a lot of scars...and for years I tried to cover them up. ▪️The accident that paralyzed my arm - happened 2 weeks before 7th grade. I broke a lot of small bones around my eye and face and had a nerve transplant surgery and many others to try and save my arm plus other internal injuries.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▪️From all the surgeries within the first couple months after the accident - I had a lot of fresh, scary scars.. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▪️I distinctly remember a girl telling me that my scars were so disgusting that they made her want to throw up and I should cover them ALWAYS. The scars are on my neck. So I tried to cover them as best I could. ▪️As an enneagram 2 - I always wanted to help others and I felt so bad that my body disturbed people, made them feel uncomfortable. And I knew it wasn't just the scars.. they just didn't know how to interact with their friend that use to be able to do everything with 2 arms and now cant. They were afraid of the word paralysis. Frankly I was too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▪️ I carried a lot of Shame and it wasn’t til college, when I started to work through my past and started to heal the emotional wounds related to my scars and body. I did a photography project on skin that challenged me to process what it meant to embrace my scars as symbols of strength. That was my first empowerment project - I just didn’t know it yet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▪️That later led to a documentary project of my accident and the healing process. I drove out to the site of the accident 10 years after the accident... and now we are almost coming to the 20 year anniversary. Empowerment sessions come from a heart of being kinder to the bodies God gave us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▪️So this week I wanted to share more about why I'm passionate about this side of my business! So Thursday at 8:00PM PST I'm going LIVE to answer questions, share my story, and share a few stories of other incredible women! So come hang out, comment in the LIVE so I know you are there and I'll see you guys tomorrow night! ▪️What’s your story? Share below so I can cheer you on!

  • It's been a busy few days! I have been talking with couples about new dates and plans - since the recent announcement about the gathering restrictions this summer.
🌿Our industry is definitely taking a hit and so many couples are having to reimagine their wedding days and for many postpone their celebrations.
🌿This is a tough time for any business in the wedding industry, but even though its a hard time for our industry - it's also the time to serve our clients! It's hard to adjust and grieve expectations of a day you have planned for over a year! I want to give my couples the space to feel those emotions, while offering encouragement! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌿 Last week I talked with one of my brides for an hour - listening to her concerns and encouraging her that if she changes her wedding plans from a 200 person outdoor wedding to an intimate celebration on the coast in a location thats truly special to her - it will be absolutely magical! She has an awesome team of vendors who love intimate celebrations and elopements and we are so excited to help make this wedding not be a day that feels like a Plan B - but rather make it truly MAGICAL and unique! I have been so proud of each of my couples - as they have handled these changes with grace and shared compassion for their vendors as well!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌿It's times like this that the trust you have in your vendor team really shines! And personally, I am getting really excited to dream with my couples as we plan creative and intimate celebrations! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿🌿So if your wedding experience has been impacted - I want to know - how are you feeling?
If you are a wedding vendor - how are you feeling?

Simply daydreaming of sand between my toes. I'm normally a mountain gal - but a day at the beach, playing in the waves, taking a nap in hammock below the palm trees sounds pretty great.

  • Happy Earth day! 🌿🌎I spent my morning learning how to propagate a few of my succulents 🌵- to trade a few baby plants with one of my groom's Tino @tinoquiroga - who is a fellow plant lover! 🌱🌱🌱 I'm definitely a newbie but I have been loving learning more about house plants this past year! It's been a fun hobby and so great to get my hands in the dirt! (which @gatherdesigncompany shared about in our interview in IGTV - how working with plants and dirt has been shown in studies to help with sadness and depression - so I think house plants are a great quarantine hobby if you are feeling down! ) 🌵Plus I love the idea of sharing plants - from the offspring of our current plants! Any fellow plant lovers that enjoy trading cuttings and propagating their plants? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think one thing is for sure - we all have a little more gratitude for the beautiful world we live in. And even though I can't go explore my favorite parks or hikes - it brought some joy to my afternoon - looking through past intimate weddings and elopements out in nature! 🏕
Plus in this downtime - I updated my contract to include a #leavenotrace clause - educating couples about how we can celebrate their love in nature without leaving a trace - taking care of the beautiful earth we live in. But I want to point you to a great resource! Check out @thegreatestadventurewed ‘s IG stories today! She is sharing tips for couples and vendors on how they can implement the #leavenotrace mindset into their wedding planning!
And since I'm always trying to look for silver linings.. I must say - I'm happy that the earth has had a moment to breath from the pollution. 🌠So today - share a photo in your stories of a) your house plants b) you in one of your favorite hikes/national parks OR C) for photographers - a session you did in nature - then tag me! I'd love to fill my feed with the natural beauty of our world! 🏔🏔🏔 #earthday2020

  • "Kelly, There is not a card big enough or enough words in the english language to even BEGIN to express the love and appreciation we have for you and your talents. Our wedding day is something we've dreamed of and envisioned for years, and not only did you make it a dream come true, but you made it more incredible than we ever imagined and captured it all! Not only did you capture the greatest day of our lives, but you were the ultimate planner, organizer, and wedding extraordinaire. Your talent, creativity, art and vision and work are unparalleled and we are eternally grateful to work with you and be apart of the KLP Community. I know we have saif it a lot, but you truly are an incredible human being and we are so lucky to not only call you our photographer, but a close friend. You inspire us in so many ways and we truly cant thank you enough for all the help and support. You brought the magic to our big day and we are forever grateful!
Love,
Kelsey + Justin Cox

Cue the tears! Whenever I need a boost of encouragement - I read their letter. @kelseynicolecox + @justin_coxy - you two are such incredible humans and I'm so honored to have had the privilege of capturing the beginning of your journey in marriage! • Juliana is 2.5 months! She is cooing and smiling and was totally stolen our hearts! Amidst the chaos - I want to pause - and take a moment to share the raw and powerful story of her birth. I have to say – it feels surreal - after 3.5 years of waiting to be sharing this incredible miracle. The full story is on the blog (link in my bio) - I warn you, it's long, but a powerful story thats for sure. Here is an excerpt: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"So Lexi asked me to lay beside her. THIS was the most powerful moment in the whole experience!! I laid beside her, holding her, and I would breathe in….and out…and helped her pace her breathing til we were in sync. Breathing in sync…inhale…exhale… Tears were streaming down my face – as I witnessed the most incredible sacrifice. That was when Lexi said something I’ll never forget – in between her INTENSE contractions – she said, “Kelly – I want you to know that this will all be worth it! Every moment is worth it! And I would do it all again!” In the middle of some of the most intense pain in her life – she wanted ME to know that she didn’t regret it and knew it was worth it – so that we could meet baby Juliana! What?!! Who is this amazing person!? She kissed my cheek and I cried and breathed with her for a moment longer – til it seemed like the time was here..."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Juliana's birth experience was one of the most raw, powerful, and incredible experiences of my life. My cousin Lexi - who carried Juliana for us - is one of the strongest and most amazing women I know and I am honored to be able to share our story of love and friendship.
