Sharing a win! This weekend I, along with my teammates, won first place in a legal design challenge organized by @legalcreatives @tessamanuello For the challenge, we were tasked with improving the newly designed iPhone privacy feature. I don’t know if any of you have noticed, but Apple introduced a new App Privacy feature similar to a nutritional label. The purpose behind the change is to help users understand what personal information apps collect and how that information is used. Think about how the moment you click on an eye wrinkle cream ad (yep, I’m that old now) and boom, that’s all you see everywhere on the internet, an eye wrinkle cream ad reminding you that you’re that old now. So, here’s the thing. When we use Facebook and other apps, we give them permission to collect our data, track us and sometimes sell our information. In addition to being an IP + Biz Attorney for badass women business owners, I’m also a legal designer. As a legal designer, I’m able to combine my creative side with my legal mind to make the law better, more human, easier to understand. I use legal design when I draft contracts for my clients. I’ve been writing and rewriting this post. I’ve missed my IG family. I connected with wicked smart, ambitious and wonderful women through my IG. Yet, I haven’t posted in three years. ✨Life happened✨ I put everyone’s needs before mine. —the 9-5 —the kids —friends, family, etc You know the story. I lost focus on my Vision. For me, Vision is simply how you want to show up in this world, how you want to feel, look, think, do, play, create, learn, explore. It’s not a Goal but your Lifestyle. I try as much as I can to refrain things from negative to positive. Basically, give myself grace. So, I did not stop or quit or give up on my vision… I Paused. When life happens When we reach a crossroad When we have to take big leaps When we lack clarity We don’t quit! 👇🏾 We either Pause, Pivot, or Purse The Plan —————————————————— I paused to gain much-needed clarity. What does Deneen truly want? Not what I should do. As someone who checked all the boxes that’s supposed to ensure your success and happiness, I was following the should path. This is what you should do to guarantee success – top-notch college and law school, prestigious career, beautiful home and family of four. —————————————————— Those boxes can be traps. The shoulds may hold us back from feeling fulfilled. Honor your Wants. That’s your vision. I want to create. I want to create functional and exceptionally beautiful tools to help other women gain clarity, confidence and courage to reach their big goals. I want to create a life that is not dictated by the status quo – the shoulds. So, I’ve been in the lab working on creating just that. Honoring what I want. 👉🏾 I’d love to hear from you.
