This award is given to the player who best represents the grit and integrity of your team - the player who never quits. They are the player on the team who embodies team values and spirit at the highest level. Not necessarily your MVP, but the quiet one who always comes to play and gives it everything they have, every time. The winner of the Unsung Hero Award will receive a special recognition plaque as well as a Quantum Speed training package in either our Vancouver or Edmonton program during the spring/summer of 2020. It is a prize valued at $2200.00 Quantum Speed is Western Canada’s premier skate training program for elite level on-ice athletes. This off-season training platform has been developed and honed over years of study and biomechanical research by Steffany Hanlen & Vanessa Hettinger, Hockey Canada’s only two certified Master Skating Instructors. Designed for elite Bantam and up players, Quantum Speed programming addresses the three key components that create a more powerful skater: Technique + Power = Speed With a high Instructor to Skater ratio, each Quantum Speed athlete is steadily evaluated and their form continually adjusted during each session to break down bad habits and inefficiencies in their stride and body movement. Immediate feedback and supportive correction is the cornerstone on their long-term progression into becoming a faster and more powerful skater. 2019 recipient: @carter_spirig
This weekend, Daniel, Al and Vanessa got a crash course in how to “do life at - 50 C AND had the opportunity to work with some amazing athletes and people. Hay River, NWT, is a town of 3500 people, and an amazing example of a community that supports their athletes in being the best that they can be. They fundraise and organize to provide world class training in world class facilities for their athletes; male and female, young and old! The Figure Skating Club and the Hockey Association came together to offer a Quantum Speed program, an initiative spearheaded by Kim Wilkins and Heather Coakwell. A year and a half after Kim and Heather met Vanessa and the Crew at Skate Canada’s CanPowerSkate course, a year after Hay River’s new arena opened, and many years into Hay River’s partnership with Skating Success and ProSkate, we were thrilled to deliver a customized Quantum Speed program to Hay River’s future hockey superstars! Thank you to Kim, Heather and Jaime for their tireless efforts to make this camp happen … and for the hot soup, chile and treats!!! We are honoured to have been welcomed into this community and look forward to skating with you all again in October 2020!
@r_encarnacao stopped by @_proskate to get some final touches on his new @bauer 2S Pro’s. We look forward to seeing him “hopping” on the ice soon! #jumpman
