On Thursday 21st May Discovery held their Awards Assembly. A huge shout out to all our students who received certificates. We were also able to celebrate some of our students for accomplishments outside of school including Harper who won 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medal at the TSKUK Nationals. Isla and Abbie who both won Gold in the Regional Cheerleading Awards. Faye won Silver at the Street Dance Nationals and Riley who received a trophy in recognition of his rugby achievements through the year. Also, congratulations to the form tutors who got recognition for their form’s fantastic achievements in conduct and attendance.

Huge congratulations to our incredible group of High Flying students who have successfully completed The Brilliant Club!
Working alongside a PhD tutor, each explored the fascinating and complex topic of developing new antibiotics, culminating in a 1,500-word university-style essay tackling the big question: “Can chemists save the world?”
We are so proud to share that every student passed with flying colours – with several achieving a First and others a 2:1, demonstrating performance already at (and beyond!) GCSE standard.
The journey finished with a memorable graduation event, where students celebrated their achievements and received their certificates – and a special mention to the two students chosen to deliver speeches, confidently sharing how the programme has inspired and supported their learning.
An outstanding achievement all round – the future of science is in safe hands!

Welcome back to Year 10s after 2 weeks away from school- I hope work experience was a fantastic time with lots to learn about the world of work. We’re looking forward to parents’ evening next week (11th June) as you step up to being the oldest year group in the school with year 11s finishing exams soon.

Welcome back to year 7s and 8s as you prepare for your PPEs in the middle of June.
Welcome also to year 6s who will be stepping through the gates for transition days this month.
And finally, welcome to the pair of birds and their chicks that have taken up residence in one of the nesting boxes we put up last year, made by students in Design Technology. If you recognise your nesting box, please let Mr Back know! It’s clear the habitat changes to increase biodiversity are paying off!

If you come on site, you will notice the grass is long and there are raised beds dotted around and about. This is to support an increase in #Biodiversity on the school grounds. We’re also using 4 raised beds for a college competition. Both Atlantis and Discovery have got an early start by including plants with their college colours, despite some opposition from the fox that roams the grounds!

Our #Year7 students had a fantastic opportunity to see #Maths in action during their visit to the world-famous Bletchley Park!
The day began with an interactive codes and ciphers workshop, where students explored the mathematical principles behind encryption. They investigated patterns, logical reasoning, and problem-solving techniques used to encode and decode messages—just as mathematicians and codebreakers did during World War II. From substitution ciphers to frequency analysis, students discovered how maths underpins communication and security. 🔍📊
Applying their classroom learning in a real-world context, students worked collaboratively to crack challenging codes, demonstrating resilience, critical thinking, and precision—key skills in mathematics. 💡
The tour of the site reinforced how vital mathematical thinking was to historic breakthroughs, including the work of Alan Turing and his team, who used mathematical models and algorithms to help shorten the war.
A truly inspiring day, showing our students that maths is not just numbers—it’s a powerful tool for solving real problems and shaping history. 👏
