“Nonconformity is the highest evolutionary attainment of social animals.” – Aldo Leopold | I exceptionally cherish when an idea comes to me that makes me feel clever. This hand-lettered giraffe was one of those ideas. I thought the words matched so well with the image and they both enhanced each other. 🦒 Do you agree? Are there shapes you’d like to see lettered with inspirational, fitting quotes? . . Cards of this motivational lettered giraffe can be found in my #Etsy shop! Interested in prints? Let me know!
“There’s not a word yet for old friends who’ve just met.” – Jim Henson | This past weekend in Maine was so incredibly fun! This year I feel amazingly grateful for the female friendships that have deepened in my life. Friends are so crucial to listen to and inspire you. I never have been surrounded by so many strong, fantastic women as I have been these past few months. This weekend I got to help celebrate a true gem of a person in @naugleface . Thanks for sharing your super cool friends with me for the weekend and letting me be a part of your laughter-music-lobster-filled bachelorette! ❤️🎤🦞

There have been so many wild critters frequenting our house recently, including this industrious bumblebee and this adorable red eft. Living close to nature allows me to appreciate these guys right in my yard! 🐝🦎June in Vermont can be muddy and rainy, but it’s also full of cool moments like these. . . Did you know that It’s National Pollinator Week? More than 75 percent of the Earth's flowering plants depend on bees, butterflies, birds, bats, and other pollinators! Learn more from the wonderful National Park Service here: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/pollinators! . . Red Efts are another favorite spring creature of mine. An eft is the terrestrial larval stage of the aquatic eastern red-spotted newt. They tend to hang out where aquatic vegetation is abundant... or apparently where you’ve gotten a TON of rain near your house. 😂
“You were right about the stars... each one is a setting sun.” – Jesus, etc., Wilco | While I was staying at my parents’ house a few weekends ago I found this lettered piece that I had given my dad way back in 2012 or 2013. I love finding old work! It makes me appreciate how far I’ve come and be grateful for the passion I still have for the art of #handlettering. I’ve gotten better at legibility now... but I haven’t played with metallic sharpies in a while! ✨ . It brightens my day to still see my art all over my childhood home. Also, Wilco continues to be amazing. Thank you for the great taste in music, Dad ! 🎼
Just popping in to send out some blue sky, blue heeler vibes to you all today. May your outlook be clear and sunny; may your bark be worse than your bite. Think of exciting adventures to come! ☀️🍃🐾
I’m constantly talking about how great nature is, but it’s exactly how I feel living here in Vermont! I’m happiest and most inspired when I can sit/hike/ride in the sun. It’s incredible what even a ten minute walk can do to lift your spirits and calm your mind. 🌲🌌✨ . . Looking for more nature-inspired artwork? Come visit me and other wonderful local artists @basinreclaimed , @g_claire_c , & @topknotdecor at Gallery Night: Friday, June 28 at @theclearvt !
Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy. – Dale Carnegie | Rock climbing outside terrifies me. My husband is getting really into the sport and he, along with some of my friends, has wanted me to join him on many adventures this year. I’ve stayed home out of fear until yesterday. 🧗🏼♀️ . . They finally convinced me to tag along on a multi-pitch climb in New Hampshire. Although I absolutely had some freak out moments, I overall enjoyed the experience! The views were awesome and my confidence increased. . . Get out and do the things that scare you. Try to get out of your head. You are so much more capable than you give yourself credit for. Here’s wishing you a fearless, busy week!
Happy Father’s Day from Wander On Words! My dad has always brought humor into my life, as well as a hard work ethic and an entrepreneurial drive. I’m so grateful for his wisdom and his dad jokes. I wish I could spend time with him and my family today. My heart goes out to all who struggle with this holiday, but I hope a little laughter can lift your spirits!
