• We just moved back home 3 weeks ago after fixing it from top to bottom after 2 major hurricanes hit our city 6 weeks apart. Then we had an epic ice storm that left us without water for days. Now flooding across an entire city that was still struggling to pick up the pieces after the hurricanes. Our house is okay today, but my heart is so sad for everyone struggling. This cannot be real life. Why does this keep happening to Lake Charles, LA? All of this has happened in the last 9 months in the midst of a pandemic!! Please say some prayers for everyone here. While it's not been a fun 2020 for us, we are excited for our new home. We are getting a trial run in house building basically and learning how to have a ridiculous amount of patience. Our insurance company has been so good to us thus far, which has made this process so much easier and way less of a headache. Less than 7 weeks ago, we were hit directly by a category 4 hurricane, and now tomorrow, we are staring at a category 3. Our roof has a tarp on it. A tarp. Not shingles.   • DID YOU EVEN KNOW?! Two weeks ago, Hurricane Laura, a CATEGORY 4 storm... actually the largest storm to hit Louisiana in over 150 years (BIGGER THAN KATRINA), slammed into my city. The entire city looks like a war zone. That is not an exaggeration. There was no water (it's still not potable) and absolutely no electricity for thousands and thousands of people. I do not know of a single building or home that was unaffected by this storm, yet there's hardly been any coverage because in Lake Charles we help each other. There's no big drama, but everyone helping everyone in any way that they can. People have come from all over the country to bring supplies, food and to help us rebuild our city. The number of linemen working to bring electricity to us is incredible, and after just 2 weeks, many people have already started getting power back in their homes, which is just remarkable considering the amount of damage we received in Lake Charles and the surrounding areas. God spared us the 18 foot storm surge we were expecting by sending it away from Lake Charles to a less populated area (people have seriously been affected there in Grand Chenier though), but that doesn't mean we aren't experiencing catastrophic damage. It is devastating. So many people have lost everything. Our house made it out ok, but our neighbor's house and several others in our neighborhood are total losses. We need so much help. We have felt extremely ignored by our governor and the media, but we will stick together and rebuild Lake Charles, LA even better than before Hurricane Laura. It will take a long time, but we will do it! We are survivors. If you haven't heard of this storm, look it up. Do your research.   • Here's an up close shot of the beautiful roses I mentioned yesterdsy! Aren't they gorgeous? They've been opening up so much today, and they are just so stunning. ❤ This week has been really rough. A cranky one year old all day long that constantly wants to be held or climbs on you any chance they get can be really exhausting especially when you have things to do. Not to mention the whining that has been pretty constant for days since his one year doctor's appointment last Friday. . Today, I sat in my car and just cried for a few minutes after we left the store because it's just been a hard week. My happy, always smiling, laughing little boy has not been the same since the appointment. The days have been so slow and so long, and I just lost it for a few minutes. . It's so easy to get bogged down and in that negative mindset that things are so hard right now, but I just keep reminding myself it will get better soon. Many months ago, we were dealing with colic and tummy issues, and eventually it got better. So I know this will get better too. Until then, I'm just going to keep trying to do the little things during nap time or in the evening when he's off to bed to refresh and forget the hard day that was. . These flowers may just be flowers to some, but they make me smile, and on weeks like this one, I could use the extra smile. . Anyone else having a rough week? What do you do to try to change it around or at least remind yourself that it will get better?

  • 7 years ago today, I started my own business! 🎉 I am so blessed to be able to do something I love and also stay home with my little one and watch him grow every day. On a whim, I opened an Etsy store and learned things as time went on and after 5 years, I designed my own website! I really had no idea what I was doing when I opened @notableaffairs, and I had no clue that it would turn into a full time job that helps pay the bills, but here I am 7 years later still in awe that this is what I get to do as my career. . I am so, so thankful for all of my customers throughout the years and for those close ones that support me, believe in me and cheer me on as I reach new milestones. ❤ Telling others what I do for a living always gives me weird looks, but I am so grateful I have this career. Running your own business is so hard, but I absolutely love it and cant wait to see what the next 7+ years have in store for me. 😘 P.s. Here's a sneak peek at my new office.
