I spent most of my studio time in the last few days making stencils of my passion leaf logo custom scaled to paint as backgrounds on the different sizes of stretched and primed canvas. It’s really tedious work, but I love the unique result. The Mardi Gras tree is up and sparkling! I spent the last week doing a lot of routine stuff in the studio, reorganizing, putting away clutter, and getting three new pieces marked up. Then I found out that since Mardi Gras is cancelled this year, people are decorating the OUTSIDE of their houses this year, so you know what that did to my brain! This is “Golden Nest”. I notice that hummingbirds I see in California don’t sport the emerald green and opalescent gold plumage I see here in the bay. At about eight years old I remember finding a deceased hummingbird lying on the blackberry path with my Papaw. He put it in a large glass vial so I could take it to show and tell. I was fascinated by its tininess, the rich color, and its natural gold bling. Such a blessing to paint and cut these pieces that bring back the memory. A #zoom holiday party was the perfect time for me to wear my pink Lisa Douglas floofy lounging robe / kimono / pegnoir. I feel I channel her Green Acres vibe every day here in the bay, getting used to the varmints and critters. I’m sure my husband wonders what caused his wife to scream bloody murder today? Swarming termites? Water moccasins? Giant beetles? Chupacabra taunting us from the oak tree? Hurricane force winds? My demon pug? It’s all inspiration, one tiny trauma at a time.
