So, our first official day of reopening on Saturday 1st May..... Yes, of course we were excited to be reopening and welcoming old and new customers, but it did not come without first day nerves. Apart from the initial 4 weeks back in March 2020, it has been our 'office' nearly every day, our base, our headquarters, our sanctuary, our photographic studio and our dumping ground.... What it has not been, is a beautiful shop. Until, Saturday... NIGHT! It was not easy and we underestimated it. A total clear out was needed, a system has been established, and gradually and steadily it will become 'fuller', more selectively, more thoughtfully. I found myself apologising to people coming in, why was I apologising.... This is my shop! But I was, because it wasn't quite as finished as I would have liked and it was strange, and very exposing having people wander around it. But do you know what, it was a great success, we sold well, we made new contacts, we saw some old ones, we spoke to friends (properly) and it felt very new and exciting. And I felt proud, proud of our lovely shop and of our amazing little Town. It was a good day. (glass cracked to one side) 64cms This sign would have been placed on one of the launch boats on HMS TIGER bringing sailors to and from the shore. Together with two framed photographs of the ship. HMS TIGER was ordered in 1945 during WW2, but was not completed until the war ended. Later converted to a helicopter carrier and guided missile cruiser in the early '70s.
