IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING SERVICE It's been a fun, exciting and powerful 7 years and we accomplished what we set out to do - make composting more normal in Athens and inspire others to compost more both here and across the country. I am a firm believer that if you change a community's behavior in the right way, empowerment happens, and naturally your force isn't needed - and it's a good thing! All of you have helped turn Athens into a true composting hot spot - we have 2 commercial composting facilities, many businesses using the 3 bin system, commercial compost collections, residential collections, a drop off program, and as of last Tuesday, an official ban on styrofoam at events. Schools are demanding composting, kids are demanding composting, and businesses that once looked at me like I was crazy are now advocating for more composting! That being said, after December 15, 2019, Let Us Compost is shutting down operations. We will no longer be offering curbside collections services, soil and mulch delivery, or compostable wares. We appreciate all of you so much and if you see us around town, stop and say hi or tell us a story! To keep composting, you can compost in your backyard if you have one, drop off compost at the CHaRm, or use another local pick-up service - compost culture has grown so much that all of this is now available! As for the billing, if you are on an annual plan you will be given a pro-rated refund, and if you are on a monthly plan, you have already paid you last bill. Thank you and hope to see you around Athens! Kristen WHAT HAPPENS NOW? Curbside collections will continue as usual through December 13, 2019. That means that Tuesday Dec. 10, Wed Dec. 11, and Thursday Dec. 12 will be the final service days. Please place your bucket on the curb on your last assigned day. Our driver will come by, collect your bagged compost, and leave your bucket behind. Please feel free to continue using your bucket, or you may take them to the CHaRM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) or sign up for another local pick up service. If you do not want to keep or recycle the bucket yourself, please let us know.

I met Ariel at the Autumn Harvest feast last year and she encouraged @chopsandhops to go compostable! They are particularly intrigued by these @vegware gloves and are getting chef tested this week. Thanks @chloe_abercrombie for compostable clamshell modeling!
We got really close to representing “American Gothic” in this photo. Throughout the 7 years of Let Us Compost we have gotten “so close” to hitting the big one, whatever that is, chasing pseudo elephants. But it’s the little wins, the awesome people who use our service in Athens, the businesses willing to spend a little more to make soil not trash, that Operations Manager that puts his job on the line to push for composting, and Solid Waste Department that has been encouraging us all along. So maybe we forget about the elephant, let it roam in peace, and instead feed all the little micro-organisms that have been saying yes all along.
@graduateathens started composting! Who knew they had a rad coffeehouse with magenta couches too? Remembering the line from The Graduate where the family friend insists that he get into plastics. And now we swim in them. He swam in what seemed to be a haz-mat scuba suit. Wish I had hung onto my scuba suit from college. It just traveled on one awesome trip to a California lake. What will be new for the next generation? The crickets are loud and I’m grateful for them.
