It’s Student Spotlight time! 💫 Holland, Michigan native Anne Gerhardt found a place to call home in Boone, NC, when she discovered App State’s film photography program in the Art Department. Growing up, her mom’s Kodak digital camera enabled her to shoot constantly in a music supported home, and fall in love with the art form enough for her to pursue a studio major with a concentration in film photography. One of Anne’s biggest goals is to continue shooting with film throughout her life and document powerful moments in the world. For Anne, a lesson that has come up throughout the years is that everyone interprets life in their own way. “It’s beautiful to see so many different viewpoints.” To see more of Anne’s work, you can follow her at @redmilkweed on Instagram Want to be featured for our student spotlight? Spoopy Student Spotlight💫 Originally from Huntersville, NC, Graphic Design major Alexa Csehoski found her home at App State due to the laid back environment, the beauty of the mountains and the people. It was also due to making the App State dance team that made the choice that much more obvious. It is quite ironic to Alexa that, even if she didn’t see herself in the artistic field, she was still involved all throughout her schooling. She wanted to pursue engineering or become a pharmacist, but App State changed her plans—as well as the growing field of online art, social media, and developing technologies. Alexa was soon accepted into the Graphic Design program (portfolio pictured above). Alexa finds that this field encourages her and others to constantly create. Create new ideas to solve problems, which in turn, is a great way to explore new outlets and create things you once never thought was possible. You can check out, and follow, Alexa here :@alexa_csehoski Want to be featured for our student spotlight? Shoot us a DM!

A reminder to 1: visit the third floor of Wey more often, and 2: As a student/faculty member, you are entitled to freedom of speech rights. Do not let yourself be silenced. You are human, you have a voice and I hear you.
The print lab is also a science lab on the side. Unlike that speaker, Zack won’t take a screwdriver to your print. Check out the print lab for all of your printing needs!
Student Spotlight! 💫 Aliens may be out of this world, but for Graphic Design major Bryson Maynard, they were closer to him than they seemed. As a kid, Bryson’s fascination with the anatomy of alien-like bugs, the geometry, and the ratios found within organic life played a large part in his decision to attend App State...along with a pretty cool Graphic Design program. The choice to pursue graphic design was a way for Bryson to have a career without sacrificing his creativity. His involvement in creating, drawing, and building was strongly supported by his family back in Oak Ridge, NC, along with attending a magnet school for high school. “The high school really cemented my drive to making a living by creating art and opened my eyes to career fields such as gd that could make this a possibility for me”. An important lesson Bryson has learned over the years is that art has taught him to be self driven, and utilize his skills to communicate his ideas to others. It is due to this lesson that he has pursued a freelance design business making logos and concept art for bands, small businesses, and book illustrations. Bryson has also learned networking through his skills, and the scene that he frequents in order to maintain his business. If you would like to follow, look into, or contact Bryson here is the social medias for his work.
